Dr. Drew Pinsky’s HLN show “Dr. Drew On Call,” was cancelled days after claiming he was “gravely concerned” with the state of Hillary Clinton’s health.
The move, by HLN’s parent company CNN, led to rampant speculation online that the cancellation was retaliation from the network that has been accused of being pro-Clinton.
In a statement Ken Jautz, CNN’s executive vice president, said the network and Pinsky “have mutually agreed to air the final episode of his show on September 22″ but did not give a specific reason for the show being axed.
“Dr. Drew and his team have delivered more than five years of creative shows and I want to thank them for their hard work and distinctive programming,” Jautz said . “Their audience-driven shows, in particular, were innovative and memorable TV. And Dr. Drew has been an authoritative voice on addiction and on many other topical issues facing America today.”
Pinsky released a statement of his own on the cancellation.
“It has been a privilege working at HLN,” he wrote. “My executive producer Burt Dubrow and our outstanding staff and contributors were consistently exceptional. I am very excited to stay within the CNN Worldwide family as a contributor.”
The announcement came eight days after Pinsky appeared on KABC’s “McIntyre in the Morning” and said that he, and a internist-pulmonologist he spoke with were “were gravely concerned not just about her health, but her health care” after reviewing “information that she has provided, and her doctors have provided.”
He also criticized the care she had been received.
“Both of us concluded that if we were providing the care that she was receiving, we’d be ashamed to show up in a doctor’s lounge,” he said. “We’d be laughed out. She’s receiving sort-of 1950-level care by our evaluation.”
Even more “coincidentally” the radio station on which Drew appeared has deleted the archive of his comments from its website.
Many on social media did not think his comments on Clinton’s health and his show’s cancellation were a coincidence.
