Following President Obama’s speech on the Islamic terrorist organization ISIS and the country’s role in defeating the group, he got a wake-up call from CIA Director John Brennan.
During the speech given months ago, Obama insisted that ISIS was “not an existential threat” to the US, claiming the group has “perverted” the religion of Islam.
Here are his remarks:
“Groups like ISIL can’t destroy us, they can’t defeat us. They don’t produce anything. They’re not an existential threat to us. They are vicious killers and murderers who perverted one of the world’s great religions.
And their primary power, in addition to killing innocent lives, is to strike fear in our societies, to disrupt our societies, so that the effect cascades from an explosion or an attack by a semi-automatic rifle.”
But, Brennan is not having any of it, shooting down Obama’s claims that ISIS is not a threat to the US and making it clear that it’s not all okay when it comes to the fight against terrorism.
“As the pressure mounts on ISIL, we judge that it will intensify its global terror campaign to maintain it’s dominance of the global terrorism agenda,” Brennan said.
Most notable, Brennan said he believes ISIS is trying to infiltrate the country using the refugee program.
“The group is probably exploring a variety of means for infiltrating operatives into the West, including in refugee flows, smuggling routes, and legitimate methods of travel,” said Brennan.
Brennan warned that ISIS has now grown larger than Al-Qaeda, citing that the terrorist group has fighters all over the world who have pledged their allegiance.
