The Social Security Administration released its list of the top baby names of 2016 and boy…or girl…how names have changed.
For boys, the top baby name in the nation was Noah, while for girls Emma ruled.
State by state, however, the top spot varied, the Huffington Post reported.
Liam, William, Mason, Benjamin, Henry, Jackson, and Elijah reigned supreme in 37 states on the boys side whereas Olivia, Ava, Sophia, Mia, Harper, Isabella, and Genesis took top honors for girls in 28 states.
The names appear to be influenced by pop culture but one name, William, has remained a favorite for 100 years.
In 1916 it was the number two ranked name in the nation and in 2016 it took the number five spot.
A look at the favorites by decade according to the Social Security Administration.
Region also played a big role.
William was a favorite in the south, other than in Louisiana and Florida where Noah and Liam took the number one spots respectively.
Did anyone ask these babies how they identify before naming them?
