Missing the Fox News-hosted, Megyn Kelly-moderated Republican presidential debate might have cost Donald Trump victory in Iowa.
But at least one political expert, and a few critics on the left, predicted that the move would give him a way to save face in case he lost Iowa.
And it sounds like that’s exactly what he’s doing.
“The fact is, it could have been the debate,” the former undisputed front-runner told a New Hampshire crowd Tuesday. “Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. But I would have done it exactly the same way because I raised — one hour, I raised six million dollars for the vets. And I would never, ever give that up to go between first and second in Iowa. It wouldn’t be worth it.”
