Megyn Kelly backs Cruz’s claim in amnesty showdown; Rubio furious

Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz continued their battle over each other’s position on illegal immigration at the Republican presidential debate Thursday night.

“When that battle was waged, my friend, Sen. Rubio, chose to stand with Barack Obama and Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer and support amnesty. And I stood alongside Jeff Sessions and Steve King, and we led the fight against amnesty,” Cruz said.

He cited radio hosts Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh and Sen. Jeff Sessions as agreeing that Cruz led the fight to kill the Gang of Eight amnesty bill co-sponsored by Rubio and Sen. Chuck Schumer.

Megyn Kelly backed Cruz’s claim.

“Even Chuck Schumer, your co-sponsor of the bill, agrees with Ted Cruz on this,” she said.

“This is the lie that Ted’s campaign is built on. That he’s the most conservative guy, and everyone else is a RINO (Republican In Name Only),” Rubio shot back.

Rubio mentioned several occasions where he said Cruz supported amnesty and said his position has changed in order to “get votes.”

“Now you want to trump Trump on immigration,” he said. “But you can’t, we’re not going to beat Hillary Clinton with someone who’s willing to say or do anything to win an election.”
