Republican strategist Liz Mair went toe-to-toe with conservative firebrand Ann Coulter over Donald Trump — and things got personal.
Mair, who runs an anti-Trump group, argued that the only reason conservatives are backing Trump is because of his stance on immigration, and that some of Trump’s policies are left of Hillary Clinton.
“It’s all about immigration,” Coulter fired back, “It doesn’t really matter what a Republican’s position is on saving Social Security or how they’re going to reform Medicare. Americans are being outvoted by foreigners, and Americans have been begging their own party to shut it down, to stop this endless immigration for decades now.”
Mair said Trump is “another liberal” who “just happens to have an issue with Mexicans.”
The two tussled over Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president, with Coulter saying the senator is not a natural-born citizen, before revealing her “ideal ticket” as Trump and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
“That’s what I’m really hoping for. That’s a dynamite combination,” Coulter said.
“That is the proof right there that you are in no way conservative and in no way interested in conservative policy,” Mair shot back.
