Watch emotional reunion between 15-year-old American Idol contestant and military mom

Day two of the final season of the hit reality singing competition “American Idol” ended by bringing out the waterworks for many who watched.

The final contestant of the night, Tristan McIntosh, 15, was auditioning without her mom being present because she is in the Army and was stationed in the Middle East.

“I just want to make my mom proud,” she said before her audition.

She then proceeded to knock everyone’s socks off with an incredible rendition of Mickey Guyton’s “Why baby why?”

Afterwards, judge and singer Harry Connick Jr. read an email sent by McIntosh’s mother, Army Maj. Amy McIntosh, which brought the 15-year-old to tears.

But that was just the beginning.

“Tristan, she wouldn’t miss it,” Connick said as the camera panned to show her mother entering the audition room.
