Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott were the first to respond to President Obama’s decree that essentially schools must allow boys in girl’s bathrooms.

While the edict doesn’t have the force of law behind it, the Obama administration sent a letter to public schools on Friday warning that if they fail to comply with the order from his majesty they could lose federal funds or face a lawsuit.

A copy of the letter was posted on the Department of Justice website.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott didn’t waste time responding and issued a statement on Twitter in defiance of the “king.”

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee followed with an appearance on the TODAY Show.

“Let the states decide,” Trump said. “And I think it’s much better as a local issue. I don’t think it’s a federal issue where the federal government gets involved.”

Trump said he wants transgendered students to be protected but said the issue should remain at the local level.

“I see what’s happening and it’s become such a big situation. And you know what? Everybody has to be protected and I feel strongly about that. But you’re talking about a tiny, tiny group of the population,” he said.

Social media users had a more direct question for President Obama… Will his daughters have to live with this directive?
