The U.S. State Department intervened to shut down a meeting between a senior official from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s office and the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations.
Commissioner Ana Maria Archila, who heads up the mayor’s Office of International Affairs, was set to sit down with Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, at 2 United Nations Plaza on Tuesday before the get together was called off after the State Department, which wasn’t informed of the scheduled meeting, met with the administration “to clarify acceptable conduct,” the City Journal reported.
According to the outlet, Archila had not informed the Democrat mayor of her planned meeting with the official from Iran, a nation that the U.S. is currently at war with, and was “reprimanded for the move and directed to cancel the meeting according to the source familiar with the office.”

“This meeting did not and will not take place,” a spox for the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs said in a statement.
Addressing questions about the aborted meeting, Mamdani played dumb, insisting that he had no knowledge of it and only heard of it through a press inquiry.
Check this out. Mamdani’s administration set up a meeting with Iranian officials…while the US is at war…with Iran.
Now, he’s trying to cover it up.

“That meeting did not take place, it will not take place, and I did not know about it until there was a press inquiry regarding it,” Hizzoner said during a Friday press conference.
“I’ve said that that meeting will not be taking place. Thank you all very much,” Mamdani added after being pressed by reporters about the meeting.
“The commissioner recognizes that this was made in error and we’re working on a new process in terms of new meeting requests,” Mamdani told reporters at another event, according to the New York Post. “Again, this was a request that came into the office, not one that originated from the office.”
“We appreciate the mayor understanding the value of diplomacy, and for his decision to cancel this meeting. It is unconscionable that a New York City official would even consider meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to the U.N., a man who consistently works to undermine U.S. interests and whitewash his regime’s crimes against the United States, our allies, and Iran’s own citizens,” a State Department official said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
After the news broke about Archila’s planned canoodling with the Iranian representative, GOP City Council members are demanding answers, sending her a smoking hot letter on Friday.
“It is dubious, at best, for a city office that has absolutely no authority to discuss or shape US foreign policy to engage in such a role,” the letter said, according to the New York Post.
“However, for it to conspire to meet with the representative of a dangerous, authoritarian, fascist regime that is the worldwide leader of state-sponsored terrorism, that has vowed ‘Death to America,’ and is currently engaged in a lethal military conflict with our country, is an astounding (breach) of protocol and public trust, and could be construed as a subversive act,” the lawmakers wrote.
The now-cancelled meeting was to take place as new strikes on the Islamic Republic have begun after the fragile ceasefire broke down and amid reports that the Iranian regime is plotting to assassinate President Donald J. Trump.
