Social media video shows why you might not want to be a tightwad when purchasing gun holster

When it comes to the right to keep and bear arms, people often focus on the firearms, but how you exercise the “bear” part can be an important detail that can get overlooked.

In many cases, people will look for a holster that doesn’t break the bank – but it is a good idea to put some thought into what holster you buy. One video posted on X Tuesday by Gun Lovers Club demonstrates the need to think about how you carry your pistols (or revolvers) with a draw that goes very poorly.

In the video, we see a person in his bedroom practicing drawing from an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster. The draw starts out fine as he lifts up his shirt to draw the semi-automatic pistol, but then things go south.

The gun’s front sight catches on either the waistband or the drawstring of the guy’s shorts, and the gun comes out of his hand and is dangling in front of the person’s crotch. To call this a bad situation is quite the understatement.

The gun hangs from the drawstring of the guy’s shorts for about six seconds before he starts trying to retrieve the gun – and in the process of doing so, he’s got the muzzle of the gun pointed right at his stomach. This is the type of thing that would make a range officer drop dead from a heart attack.

Eventually he gets control of his firearm, but this is something that could have gone very badly. In this case, adjusting the holster’s position might have been enough. Or maybe a different holster would have been a better choice.

Figuring out how to carry one’s personal protective equipment has been an issue for centuries – David carried the stones for his sling in a pouch when he had his famous showdown with Goliath, the American Rifleman noted, with modern holsters first appearing in the 1840s. Since then, a wide variety of options have become available, and it’s useful, since we don’t wear the same outfit every day – we dress for occasions ranging from a day at the beach to a fancy dinner party.

Thankfully, these days, there are a lot of options for holsters. The best advice, after watching this video? Put some thought into not just what arms you will bear, but what you will use to carry them, and how you will be carrying them.
