Bari Weiss makes more waves with potential pick for CBS morning show host

Ongoing efforts by CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss to reshape the network are taking a turn to the right with a personnel decision making the news this week.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a former co-host of “The View,” will guest-host CBS’s morning show next week, with the move reportedly being seen as a potential audition for a larger role with CBS.

“CBS Mornings” confirmed to the New York Post that Hasselbeck will appear as a special guest host from Monday through Wednesday alongside left-wing co-host Gayle King and former NFL player Nate Burleson — Hasselbeck is married to Tim Hasselbeck, an ex-NFL quarterback who’s currently an ESPN analyst.

“The network said she would participate during the program’s 8 a.m. hour, discussing parenting, pop culture and other lifestyle topics,” the Post reported. “Hasselbeck will not participate in hard news or political coverage, according to the network.”

“CBS Mornings” has been shedding viewers in recent months, according to Variety, which cited Nielsen to say the morning program “had an average audience of about 1.69 million for the five days ended June 5.”

Weiss has been busy reworking the very biased “60 Minutes” show, having recently fired executive producer Tanya Simon and replacing her with former New York Times columnist and filmmaker Nick Bilton.

She also jettisoned correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, along with long-time smarmy correspondent Scott Pelley.
