ICE’s impact at airports proved too much to spin as one corporate media correspondent in Atlanta expressed, “I almost can’t believe I’m able to say this …”

As Democrats extended their stonewall against funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for nearly six weeks, President Donald Trump once again burst a leftist narrative with his decision to dispatch U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to airports. While fearmongering politicians demonized agents, predicting some would resort to “shooting and even killing,” CNN’s Ryan Young couldn’t help but speak to both the positive impact and interactions resulting from ICE’s presence.
Tuesday morning, during “The Situation Room,” anchor Wolf Blitzer shifted coverage from Houston, Texas, where Democrats’ partial government shutdown has resulted in only two checkpoints being open for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where wait times are dramatically diminished.
“Wolf, I almost can’t believe I’m able to say this, the times have dropped off tremendously this morning,” the senior national correspondent began. “People were waiting an hour in line. Now that is not the case. If you look at the main checkpoint here, there seems like … less than a dozen people.”
Making note of fewer travelers on a Tuesday, Young’s point remained, “I don’t think people thought they were going to see the numbers where they are right now.”
He then proceeded to address positive interactions with ICE agents, “They are patrolling the outside areas of the airport, keeping people safe, interacting with some of the people as they walk by. But for the most part, they have this defensive posture where they’re sort of just walking around and making the perimeter is safe.
“So far, the interactions between the people and the agents have been pretty nice cause they’re not wearing the masks,” said Young without detailing how that had been a point insisted on by the president.
Meanwhile, ahead of the dispatch of ICE agents to support the unfunded Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D) resorted to the kind of hyperbolic rhetoric his party has become known for as he insisted on X, “ICE agents at airports will only aggravate delays & lines–disrupting checks, interrogating travelers, dragging parents from children, detaining citizens, brutalizing families, shooting & even killing.”

To the contrary, despite a smattering of protesters harassing agents, Young reported, “We’ve never even seen them take a license from anybody as well.”
“The one area of the job that we have seen them do is every now and then they’ll stand … right behind some of the TSA agents, but not even interacting with the public. So he’s standing there guarding, but not taking any sort of boarding pass or ID from anyone,” the correspondent added while footage shared by The Daily Wire reporter Jennie Taer showed how agents were supporting travelers in line, handing out water and holding their place to facilitate restroom breaks.
