Joe Kent speaks out about being under FBI investigation

Daily Caller News Foundation

Former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent responded Friday to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) investigation into him.

The FBI opened an investigation into Kent over alleged leaks of classified information to unauthorized individuals. Kent maintained during his appearance on “The Megyn Kelly Show” that he committed no wrongdoing and that he felt “confident” in his mission to stop the Iran war.

“As for the leak allegations, I’m not concerned because I know I did nothing wrong,” Kent said. “Of course, I am concerned because we’ve all seen the FBI and the full way the government comes down on individuals who speak out. So that has been a little concerning, but I know the truth and the facts are on my side, so I think the important issues to address are what’s at hand, why we’re at war and how we get out of this state that we’re in right now.”

Although the investigation predated his departure, Kent said he never received information that he was being investigated prior to his resignation on Tuesday. He attributed his resignation to the U.S. military’s involvement in Iran, stating there was never an imminent threat posed against the U.S.

“I had access to top secret [information] up until the time that I chose to walk out the door,” Kent said. “So I was fully the director of the National Counterterrorism Center until I submitted my resignation to the White House, had a phone call conversation with President Trump and then the next day, officially announced with my resignation letter and went public. Up until that point, I had full access. I was the director of the Counterterrorism Center and I was not aware of any investigation that I was under.”

Kent stated there was no imminent threat because the U.S. did not decide to launch Operation Epic Fury until they learned Israel planned to launch an attack. He also told Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson Wednesday that Iran was never on the verge of obtaining nuclear weapons.

In his resignation letter, Kent said that President Donald Trump’s America first platform had been derailed by a “misinformation campaign” put forth by Israeli officials and their American lobbyists.

Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance said it was good that Kent resigned since he did not back the administration’s decisions.
