Conservative commentator Scott Jennings delivered battle-shy Republicans a wake-up call when it comes to the opposition party, which believes in every sense that the ends justify the means.
Jennings was participating in a debate on CNN that centered on the GOP-controlled Indiana state Senate rejecting a plan to redraw the state’s congressional map and deliver two more Republican seats – a plan pushed by President Donald Trump that would ultimately embolden the GOP’s chances of holding control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
Gov. JB Pritzker (D) warned that Democrat-controlled Illinois is “ready to respond if necessary,” before adding, “I will be clear to the folks in Indiana that we won’t stand idly by.”
“Us discussing this Indiana situation and to see a Democratic debating partner tonight cheer on Governor Pritzker and his continued redistricting, gerrymandering efforts just goes to show you that Republicans are rookies when it comes to redistricting,” Jennings said.
Compared to Democrats, Republicans are rookies when it comes to gerrymandering (see: Indiana), but the party better wake up to the absolute ruthlessness that awaits if Democrats regain control. See tonight’s debate on CNN. pic.twitter.com/wT5qk7nT1e

“We are nowhere near as practiced or ruthless when it comes to redistricting as these Democrats,” he continued. “You get state after state after state where Republicans have virtually no representation in Congress at all. Illinois is already one of the most, if not the most, gerrymandered states in the nation.”
Jennings then delivered a factual message to the Republican Party.
“So make no mistake, gerrymandering is a Democratic skill set,” Jennings added. “Republicans are still pikers when it comes to this, but I got to tell you, what you heard tonight is what they’re going to do.”
“They’re ruthless. Democrats have shut down the government,” he said. “They’ve told the military to stop following orders. They are trying to redraw maps. This is the future with Democrats, a ruthless kind of politics, and Republicans better wake up to it.”
The actions by many Republican politicians suggests the GOP prefers to be the minority party. After all, it is harder to govern than it is to rile up the base in reaction to decisions being made by the opposition party
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
There is something in members of the GOP that refuse to use the power when they have it. It makes absolutely no sense.

Republicans have royally screwed the voters that put them into office and voters will be paying the heaviest price. The republican senate has assured republicans will not be winning congressional seats, the presidency or state elections for a very long time

They are going to come for every single republican and Trump voter, donor, and supporter. Then the border is going to be wide open again for good. Don’t believe me? Just wait.

Scott the Republicans are not going to wake up, they think they are still playing the old boys game, and the Democrats are not. It’s going to be a tough lesson.
