CNN’s Dr. Leana Wen admits ‘follow the science’ demands harmed trust in health officials

Dr. Leana Wen really wants the public to know that mistakes were made throughout COVID, but doesn’t seem to want to shoulder responsibility as a new op-ed voiced concern over the “distrust” fueled by “follow the science.”

That’s right, as federal agencies have begun to admit that the virus most likely leaked from a lab, the public can more openly discuss vaccine-related injuries and Congress is investigating the government’s response, the CNN medical analyst and onetime Planned Parenthood president is gracing the public with a plea to let bygones be bygones.

Her latest effort in her non-apology tour came as an op-ed for The Washington Post titled “Public health needs a reset,” but could have just as easily been titled, “Dr. Strangejab or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Science™.”

Calling out the mantra of “follow the science,” Wen wrote, “The slogan has power because of course science matters, and of course we should follow it. But solely relying on science to guide public health decisions misses the complexity of policy deliberations.”

“The tragic paradox is that it fuels distrust in the scientific community and undermines the credibility of health officials,” she continued.

Citing studies that noted the erosion in trust such as a Pew Research Center poll that found only 29 percent of adults had confidence in medical scientists last year, down from 40 percent in November 2020, Wen didn’t blame the zealot’s refrain of “follow the science” outright, but instead found a polite way to allege the public was too stupid to be treated as adults with rights as she wrote, “we oversimplify the trade-offs and uncertainty of complicated public health policy.”

Prior to this piece, the analyst had admitted in January a fact that had been known since Dr. Deborah Birx had announced the plan in 2020, which was that all deaths where a person was marked positive for COVID would be counted as COVID deaths and, therefore, we had been overcounting hospitalizations and deaths from the beginning.

Despite that and her insistence throughout COVID that the lives of the unvaccinated needed “to be hard” as she continued to blame that block of people for spreading the virus, despite repeated documented proof that the jab did not stop transmission, Wen wrote, “When I supported lockdowns in March 2020, I was called a fearmonger bent on taking away people’s livelihoods. When I promoted vaccines, anti-vaccine advocates accused me of ‘mass murder’ for pushing ‘experimental’ injections on people.”

Notably, she did not refute either of those claims in her op-ed.

Instead, she went on to urge the public health community to “display more humility and acknowledge what we don’t know” in her bid to restore public trust that she had helped tear down. “Clear-cut answers are hard to find,” she said as the voices of those who had since been proven right were suppressed, “and it’s okay to say that.”

“Instead of demonizing those we disagree with,” she began her conclusion, “we need to approach one another with compassion and engage in productive dialogue.”

Another way to put it, much like the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s film “The Dark Knight,” Wen sees the turning tide against the medical tyrants and therefore wants you to know “I’m not a monster, I’m just ahead of the curve.”
