The Biden Department of Justice has reportedly requested that the Federal Election Commission essentially stand down as it, the DOJ, apparently conducts its own criminal investigation into embattled Republican Rep. George Santos.
“The request, which came from the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, is the clearest sign to date that federal prosecutors are examining Santos’s campaign finances,” The Washington Post reported Friday.
“The request also asked that the FEC provide any relevant documents to the Justice Department, according to the knowledgeable people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity,” the Post added.
Speaking with the Post, former FEC commissioner David M. Mason speculated on the reason for the request.
“Basically they don’t want two sets of investigators tripping over each other. And they don’t want anything that the FEC, which is a civil agency, does to potentially complicate their criminal case,” he said.
Separately, Brett Kappel, a campaign finance lawyer at D.C.-based Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg, said that the request “indicates there’s an active criminal investigation” into Santos.
The Post further noted that all relevant parties — the DOJ, the FEC, Santos, and even his attorney — declined to comment for the story.
As previously reported, Santos is a fabulist who is accused of lying through his teeth about his past. He’s also a fabulist who once reportedly danced in drag.

As a result, many on both sides of the aisle have been calling and planning for his ouster.
“Just months after Santos’ win helped seal a GOP majority, New York Democrats and Republicans are drafting contingency plans for a potential special election in the battleground district, despite the currently high likelihood that the incumbent stays put,” according to Politico.
“No matter what Santos does, the freshman fabricator’s toxicity has forced House members and campaign hands to think about 2024 months before they otherwise would,” the outlet reported Friday.
Santos is now under investigation by several parties, including the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“[T]he [SEC] on Friday interviewed two people about Santos’s role in Harbor City Capital, an investment firm that was forced to shut down in 2021 after the SEC accused it of operating a ‘classic Ponzi scheme,'” according to the Post.
“SEC interest in those people came after they were quoted Wednesday in The Washington Post describing how Santos solicited an investment in Harbor City at an Italian restaurant in Queens in late 2020,” the Post reported.
Santos for his part doesn’t appear to be stressing any of the attacks or investigations:
From interviewing clowns, to creating fake “posts” the media continues to down spiral as their attempt to smear me fails. I am getting the job I signed up for done, while you all spiral out of control.

Meanwhile, he continues getting exposed for more and more lies. For example, it’s been found that over a dozen of the top donors to his failed 2020 campaign (he later won in 2022) don’t appear to even exist.
“In September 2020, George Santos’ congressional campaign reported that Victoria and Jonathan Regor had each contributed $2,800—the maximum amount—to his first bid for a House seat. Their listed address was 45 New Mexico Street in Jackson Township, New Jersey,” Mother Jones reported Friday, drawing attention to a couple of examples.
“A search of various databases reveals no one in the United States named Victoria or Jonathan Regor. Moreover, there is nobody by any name living at 45 New Mexico Street in Jackson. That address doesn’t exist. There is a New Mexico Street in Jackson, but the numbers end in the 20s, according to Google Maps and a resident of the street.”
But it gets worse. It appears Santos once jokingly praised Hitler, *facepalm*.
“US House Representative George Santos, the Long Island Republican whose history of lies about his past included that he was a Jewish descendant of Holocaust survivors, seemed to praise Hitler and joke about killing Jews in a newly unearthed, years-old Facebook post,” The Times of Israel reported Saturday.
“In a comment Santos reportedly left under a friend’s post in 2011, the future congressman wrote ‘hight hitler lolololololololololololol’ and ‘sombody kill her!! The jews and black mostly lolllolol!!!'” the Times added.
This latest controversy — one of many involving Santos — has already spurred massive backlash, a lot of it, unfortunately, being directed at the Republican Party writ large:
Antisemitism is a feature with MAGA, not the exception. As long as Santos doesn’t go full Hitler, they won’t care.

George Santos is absolute proof positive that the Republican Party has abandoned all pretense of having standards of decency. There will never be a bridge too far, no matter how dishonest, racist or offensive their members are. How did they become so amoral?

In any other world, this would end his career. But in Republican world, this will get him a promotion.

Fits right in with the Republican majority
