Sunday marks the 50th anniversary of the decision on Roe v. Wade and Vice President Kamala Harris’ efforts to twist the Supreme Court’s 2022 overturn into an attack against conservatives were reportedly stymied in Florida as the Sunshine State appeared to give her “The DeSantis welcome.”
Washington, D.C. was awash with celebration Friday as the annual March for Life was held for the first-time in post-Roe America. To counter that narrative, further enforce progressives’ dedication to on-demand abortion and attempt to strike a blow against one of the brightest stars in American conservatism, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Harris sought to personally deliver one of her infamous word salads to his doorstep at the State Capitol in Tallahassee.
During Wednesday’s White House press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had announced, “Vice President Harris will travel to Florida to deliver a major address on the fight for women across America to have access to reproductive care and make their own healthcare decisions.”
“Fifty years after the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, ultra-MAGA Republican officials continue to push at all levels of government for extreme legislation, rolling back women’s fundamental rights, including a national abortion ban,” she continued.
However, that stunt was not only stopped from taking place at the Capitol, according to Florida’s Voice, but at backup location Florida State University (FSU) as well. The outlet’s editor-in-chief Brendon Leslie tweeted Saturday, “Hearing VP Kamala Harris’ Pro-Choice March in Tallahassee tomorrow is falling apart,” before explaining that they would be moving the event to an unnamed residence, “Both the Capitol and FSU turned her away, now she’s doing it at a private residence- on top of all that, it’s 90% chance of rain all day.”

“This,” he offered, “is what you get for being baby killers.”
Or, as Politico Florida’s bureau chief Matt Dixon said it, Harris got, “The DeSantis welcome.”

Harris, who reportedly landed in Tallahassee Saturday night ahead of her planned speech, looked all the worse for losing two high profile locations as John Stemberger, president of the pro-life group Florida Family Action pointed out the obvious “in-your-face political statement” the vice president was trying to make.
“Out of over 19,000 cities in America, she is coming to the one city where America’s most popular governor lives to basically stage an in-your-face political statement,” he told the Miami Herald. “The governor is not merely a state leader. He is also a national leader who is a present and future threat to the Biden-Harris administration and their radical agenda.”
The growing target on DeSantis’ back has also lead to his taking shots from his side of the aisle with Gov. Kristi Noem’s (R-SD) spokesman Ian Fury pitting his bosses record against America’s Governor recently stating, “Governor Noem was the only governor in America on national television defending the Dobbs decision. Where was Gov. DeSantis? Hiding behind a 15-week ban. Does he believe that 14-week-old babies don’t have a right to live?”
For his part, DeSantis, who has signaled his willingness to sign stricter bans should the Florida legislature pass them, said Friday, “First Lady [Casey DeSantis] and I stand with the thousands gathered today in DC as they March for Life. Thank you for being a voice for the voiceless!”
