Ben Carson talks worsening political correctness as ‘woke’ zealots have big month

The Western world is being overrun by “wokeness,” and former Trump administration official Ben Carson doesn’t care for any of it.

Appearing on Fox News’s “Hannity” this Friday, he was asked for his thoughts on three acts of “wokeness” that have occurred this past month.

One

A British church rewrote the 17th-century Christmas carol “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” to be more “woke” and “inclusive” toward women and homosexuals.

“All Saints with Holy Trinity in Loughborough used the carol with updated lyrics that removed reference to Christ as saviour and to Satan, instead referring to ‘queer and questioning’ and ‘women, who by men have been erased,'” according to The Telegraph.

Two

A report commissioned by the Marine Corps recommended that the military unit stop recruits from referring to their senior officers with terms such as “sir” or “ma’am.”

Why? Because said recruits might accidentally “misgender” someone.

“Employing gender-neutral identifiers eliminates the possibility of misgendering drill instructors, which can unintentionally offend or cause discord. By teaching recruits to use gender-neutral identifiers for their drill instructors, Services underscore the importance of respecting authoritative figures regardless of gender,” the study reads.

Three

A Detroit school board voted to scrub Carson’s name from Dr. Ben Carson High School essentially because he’s a Republican.

“[T]he board approved changing the name of the Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine to Crockett Midtown High School of Science and Medicine,” Chalkbeat Detroit reported.

“The push to change the name came as its namesake — a renowned neurosurgeon — courted controversy during his tenure as housing secretary in the Trump administration. There was no debate about the name change at Tuesday’s meeting. An overwhelming majority of students, alumni, staff, parents, and community favored a name change.”

Now listen to Carson’s response to all this below:

“You know, I talked the first time I spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast in 1997 about the fact that political correctness, if we continued along that pathway, was going to destroy our nation. It has continued to get worse. Now it’s morphed into ‘wokeness,” he said.

“We have a situation on our college campuses where students are afraid to express themselves — conservative students are. College is supposed to be a place where you explore and you have an opportunity to discuss certain things so that you can determine which way you’re going,” Carson added.

He continued by arguing that these days, those who seek to speak freely are being shut down thanks to an alliance between big government and the world’s many censors.

“Basically what’s happening is people are being shut down, and it doesn’t have to be the government that shuts down your freedom of speech. You know, big tech, social media, college professors can shut down your speech,” he explained.

“And if the government is compliant with that, it’s the same as if they’re doing it. And we the American people should be outraged about that. Our freedoms come from God. That’s stated in our Declaration of Independence. And yet we’re allowing them to be taken away from us,” he continued.

Continuing his remarks, Carson noted that the federal government is these days doing even more than just promoting censorship.

“And now we also have a government that is [inserting] itself into every aspect of our lives. You know, liberty and community was about what the people could do, not what the government could do, and it is impacting us tremendously. You look at the omnibus bill that was just passed, and all the pork that’s in there, and all the programs,” he said.

“You know, these are not programs that the government is supposed to be doing. These are things that we the people are supposed to be doing and how we’re supposed to be working together in our communities to strengthen ourselves. And we’re allowing all of that to be taken away from us,” he added.

Carson concluded his lengthy response by bemoaning the downfall of the U.S. vis-a-vis innovation and entrepreneurship.

“Most people don’t even know their neighbors anymore. Don’t even know what their names are. Have no idea who they are. all of these things are changing us from the dynamic and innovative people that we used to be. We had a system that encouraged innovation and entrepreneurship,” he said.

“Most of the big inventions in the world came from the United States of America. But if everybody is thinking the same way and saying the same things, where’s that out-of-the-box thinking that’s going to allow us to continue to be that beacon?” he added.

Where is it indeed …
