US Marines told to stop using ‘sir,’ ‘ma’am’ to avoid risk of ‘misgendering’ superiors

A new lengthy study is recommending that the Marine Corps goes woke and ridiculously bans recruits from respectfully addressing senior officers, specifically drill instructors, as “sir” or “ma’am” so they won’t misgender or offend those who outrank them.

Evidently, not even the Marine Corps is immune from pansification as pronoun hysteria sweeps the ranks of the US military.

A $2 million report that was commissioned by the Marine Corps from the University of Pittsburgh came up with the ludicrous recommendation. The exhaustive study, which is 738 pages long, was first commissioned in 2020. All that money and effort came up with the daft conclusion that traditional ways of addressing superiors were holding back gender integration.

“Employing gender-neutral identifiers eliminates the possibility of misgendering drill instructors, which can unintentionally offend or cause discord,” the study concluded. “By teaching recruits to use gender-neutral identifiers for their drill instructors, Services underscore the importance of respecting authoritative figures regardless of gender.”

The brain trusts over at the University of Pittsburgh’s Warrior Human Performance Research Center justify the move, claiming that “the Army, Navy, and Coast Guard effectively de-emphasize gender in an integrated environment.” Since those branches of the military have gone woke, the center says it’s time for the Marine Corps to follow suit.

“Instead of saying ‘ma’am’ or ‘sir,’ recruits in these Services refer to their drill instructors using their ranks or roles followed by their last names,” the report asserts. “Gendered identifiers prime recruits to think about or visually search for a drill instructor’s gender first, before their rank or role.”

Col. Howard Hall, who is the chief of staff for Marine Corps Training and Education Command, told the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services in December that the laughable policy is being considered by leadership. Some Marines are resisting the trend, according to the Marine Corps Times.

The Marines’ entry-level training advisory council is considering half a dozen recommendations, the report states.

Hall told the Committee that implementing such a policy would not be “a quick fix.”

“That’s going to take some effort,” Hall stated concerning the pronoun policy. “We want to avoid any quick-fix solutions that introduce perturbations down the line.”

He also told the Marine Corps Times that “it’s not something we would change overnight.”

“We’ve got a history of ‘sir, ma’am, sir, ma’am.’ If we change something at the root level, how do we make the corresponding change at the Fleet Marine Force? So it’s not ours to implement alone,” he commented.

Social media hammered the proposed policy.

One social media user wrote, “The gender identity cult is making a joke of our military. This is type of nonsense is dangerous and counterproductive to the mission of our armed forces. It needs to be put to a stop. Why the Marine Corps may nix gender identifiers for drill instructors.”

Another bluntly stated, “US Marine Corps are urged to stop calling instructors ‘sir’ and ‘ma’am’ to be more gender inclusive and avoid being ‘offensive’ by woke academics. Any real Marine would not let this happen!”

One man remarked, “Just another reason why I got out of the Marine Corps. Unfortunate that the Marine Corps and all branches are following this agenda. We are WARFIGHTERS, not politicians.”

According to the New York Post, “The commissioned study highlighted a number of areas where the service still comes across as being a male-dominated operation, including sexist behavior and jokes and training material focusing on men, often using male pronouns even for positions held by females.”

Women only account for 4.3% of Marine Corps officers and 5.1% of the enlisted for active duty, according to the Marine Corps University.

The proposed policy for the Marine Corps did not go over well:
