‘You’re a bunch of pu**ies!’ Bannon rips FBI following special counsel appointment

The Department of Justice is not a quality organization in Steve Bannon’s estimation.

Bannon’s “War Room” podcast was home to a massive rant on Friday following Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment of a special counsel to investigate former President Donald Trump in another wide-ranging probe, including his alleged removal of defense-related documents from the White House and his role in the January 6 protests.

Bannon’s first recommendation by way of response was to defund the Justice Department.

“What they oughta do immediately is say, ‘Hey, we’re not gonna give you one penny in the Justice Department,’” Bannon said, later adding, “You want a special prosecutor? Then you raise the money yourself. Go raise your money, go special prosecute that. Enough nonsense with these people. They’re criminals. They twist the law.”

His second recommendation is to impeach Merrick Garland, which seems marginally more likely, as Republicans have talked about the investigations they would like to do.

“They oughta start the impeachment process on Garland and [Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas, day one,” Bannon said.

Any efforts in that direction would clearly be symbolic. Garland, who is protected by a Democrat-controlled Senate, seems to be exactly the partisan President Joe Biden wants in an attorney general. Besides, even if Garland were impeached, it would have no chance of stopping the activity of special counsel Jack Smith at this point.

Bannon’s attack on the DOJ, which he called “the American Gestapo,” continued.

“We’re gonna clean the whole rat’s nest out – not the FBI, the American Gestapo. And I don’t care, they come on TV and say, ‘It’s terrible he says that.’ You’re the American Gestapo. In fact, you’re even greasier than the Gestapo.”

Conservatives are regularly disappointed by the acquiescence and fecklessness of Republicans who are being called on to defund something or investigate someone or defend a good person who is being persecuted, but they never seem to do it.

Garland announced on Friday that the Department of Justice is passing all of its investigations into Trump to newly-minted Special Counsel Jack Smith, a former DOJ official and lead prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. The Attorney General gave Trump’s announcement of presidential candidacy in 2024 as the reason for doing so.

Not everyone on the Left is celebrating the Justice Department’s decision to discontinue its investigations into Trump, passing them instead to a special counsel. Progressive attorney Elie Mystal, for instance, came out swinging against the decision.

“There is not a single argument that I have heard in defense of Merrick Garland’s self-serving, pearl-clutching conference that he gave this morning that points–that answers the critical question, if he was going to do this, if he believes this is in the public interest, then why didn’t he believe that was in the public interest 18 months ago when he easily could have done the exact same thing?” said Mystal on Friday’s “The Beat” with Ari Melber.

“People will say, ‘Oh, but Donald Trump wasn’t running for president 18 months ago.’” he added. “Wasn’t he, though? As far as I can tell, Trump still thinks he is the president, right? So, this idea that Trump was going to be a candidate for office is not a new development in the case.”

Bannon, continuing in his outrage, seemed to refer to the arrest of pro-life activist Mark Houck and others, who are facing federal charges for blocking entry to abortion clinics.

“They’re super tough guys,” he mocked. “A bunch of p-ssies. That’s exactly what you are. You’re a bunch of p-ssies, ok? P-ssies.”

“This thing is a joke and clown show,” summarized Bannon. “The nation’s in a financial crisis and this is what they come up with. I can’t wait to jam these people. God, I love this job.”
