In a Sunday interview with Australia’s conservative outlet Sky News, Lara Trump played the heavy who issued a warning to Florida’s Republican governor.
“I think that Ron DeSantis is very smart. Look, he’s a young guy,” former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law said.
“There will be a lot of opportunity for him in the future, and he knows this, to run for president. I think he’s probably waiting to see what my father-in-law does,” the wife of Eric Trump told Sky News Australia host Erin Molan.
“And I think he’s a smart enough guy to know that it would be great to have all the support of this party, of the America First, MAGA movement — whatever you want to call it — fully behind him in 2028 than possibly has, you know, fracturing it in 2024,” Lara Trump said.
“I can tell you those primaries get very messy and very raw. We’ve experienced that before,” she added.”So wouldn’t it be nicer for him, and I think he knows this, to wait until 2028?”
Meanwhile, in a time when people are generally looking for the next generation of leadership and a younger face, DeSantis is 44 years old, more than three decades younger than former President Donald Trump, who is 76.

“The Donald” has not formally announced his 2024 bid, but he hasn’t exactly kept it secret. He has practically announced the announcement, which is set for Tuesday. DeSantis, meanwhile, has made no mention of running for office and was re-elected in a landslide last week.
“I hope it’s a very historic event,” Lara Trump said about her father-in-law’s plans for Tuesday. “If indeed he does decide to run again, then that’s the announcement we hear on Tuesday.”
A poll released on Saturday shows DeSantis with a new 7-point advantage over Trump in a potential 2024 primary contest. And this may only be the beginning. Republicans still love Trump, but they grow restless with the desire to win, which many feel Trump didn’t do in last week’s contests.
As for DeSantis, his interest in the presidency has only been speculated on. He has been more disciplined about his ambitions if he has them. His dodge during the debate with now-triply-obsolete Charlie Crist was Reaganesque:
“I know Charlie wants to talk about 2024 and Joe Biden, but let me be clear: The only worn-out old donkey I want to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.”
In a move many criticized, Trump called the Florida governor “Ron DeSanctimonious” and in social media posts, he has called DeSantis “disloyal” and “average”, which he obviously is not, as evidenced by his historic victory last week and the recent propensity for mobile conservatives to relocate to Florida.

If there is one Republican who is likely to observe Reagan’s 11th commandment -“Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican” – it must be Ron DeSantis, whose victory party last week featured chants of “two more years.” His record of doing so has been exemplary.
On the other side of the chasm, Democrats must be licking their chops at the idea of an all-out war between Trump and DeSantis. They are definitely rooting for one:
