Minnesota ‘daycare’ owner featured in Nick Shirley’s video just ‘found out’

A hijab sure comes in handy when you’re on your way to court to plead guilty to fleecing U.S. taxpayers for millions of dollars.

Fahima Mahamud, who ran the infamous “Learing Center” in Minneapolis, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

The so-called “daycare owner” who allegedly tried to flee the United States two days after shutting her center down was part of what prosecutors have called the largest pandemic fraud case in the country.

More from CBS News:

Prosecutors said Mahamud ran Future Leaders Early Learning and pocketed money meant to feed children during the pandemic. Charges said she received more than $850,000 in fraudulent funds as part of the Feeding Our Future scheme, using most of that money to buy real estate. She also filed separate claims for about $4.6 million from the federal Child Care Assistance Program, according to the Department of Justice.

Mahamud notified the state in February that Future Leaders was closing. That same day, she booked a flight to London, according to prosecutors.

The ringleader of the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, Aimee Bock, was sentenced to more than 41 years in prison in May after she was convicted in a staggering $250 million fraud case.

“Feeding Our Future operated like a cash pipeline, open to anyone willing to submit fraudulent claims and pay kickbacks,” prosecutors said at the time.

Meanwhile, honest American citizens get up every morning and go to work, forced to pay taxes with hard-earned cash they cannot afford to part with, only to watch their money fund lavish lifestyles of criminals, many of whom have migrated to this country, who have created a cottage industry in defrauding the U.S. government — often with the full protection of the Democratic Party, it seems.

The underlying question here may be who is guiding individuals with limited English proficiency to so expertly navigate the complex government maze required to access these funds?

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
