Election prognosticators typically use an array of metrics when they make predictions about upcoming elections like voter registration trends and actual polls.
However, like with much of the decision-making made by progressives, filmmaker Michael Moore put his feelings ahead of facts Friday for his midterm forecast as he claimed, “I have never felt this optimistic.”
Moore, who decried his own “privileges of full citizenship” on Independence Day, joined the latest episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” to weigh in on the upcoming election. Not only did his disconnect from the facts regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade factor heavily in his take that a red wave was not coming, but Moore’s gut feeling countered all sound logic as he foresaw “a landslide against the traitors,” referring to all Republicans.
“I think that there is going to be such a landslide against the traitors, especially 147 Republicans who just hours after the insurrection, voted to not certify the elected president of the United States, Joe Biden, and I think that there is going to be so many people coming out to vote,” the filmmaker argued to Maher as he explained why he “never felt this optimistic.”
Using his prediction that then-candidate Donald Trump would win in 2016, he then supported his notion by revisiting his stance from earlier in the year that the Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe had deemed women to be “second-class citizens.” Basing the rant against his own citizenship on this, he claimed women have “no rights to their own bodies and [are] conscripted to a life of forced birth should they fall pregnant and not want to be.”
“I want to thank the Supreme Court for reminding women that they are, in fact, second-class citizens and taking their rights away like this,” he told the host before attempting to support his argument that Democrats will see massive wins come November because of the turnout in Kansas in August where those so-called “second-class” voters came out to oppose a state constitutional amendment on abortion.
Undeterred by his own self-defeating arguments, Moore went on to support his view that all conservatives could be voted out of Congress in the United States because it had happened before–in Canada and Great Britain.
“There are so many signs of this that I think, I honestly think if we all do our work and if we all get people to get out there and we get out there ourselves, we have a chance to do something that–it does happen every now and then,” he stated using the 1993 and 1997 elections in the ally nations as his basis.
“I think we can throw out a huge number of these Republican traitors in November,” he reiterated before adding, “So women, young people and people of color are going to save the day and we are going to be very happy the day after the election. I think there’s a revolution–a non-violent revolution–going on in favor of democracy. People don’t want to lose it. Look at how close we are to losing it. And we can’t lose it.”
Of course, Moore’s inanity didn’t stand alone as Maher revisited his asserted stance from the week prior where he claimed President Joe Biden was “killing it” as he pushed the guest for a prediction on Biden’s outlook for 2024. When Moore offered a sigh, Maher joked, “Oh, suddenly you have nothing to say.”
“I feel for him,” he responded. “I don’t want to pick on him because he’s old, but he told us when he was running he may only be a one-term president.”
“But hasn’t he done kinda good in the last six months?” Maher asked in a rhetorical departure from common sense.”
While Moore noted that he wanted Biden to “keep going” he ultimately concluded, “Believe me, I’m a huge fan of what he’s been able to do. You know, he’s not me, he’s not you, but that’s okay. We can make our peace to certain things in order to make this work.”
