Just when you thought there’s hope for Bill Maher yet, he declares an ‘older, wiser’ Biden is ‘killing it!’

Bill Maher may be turning heads on the right for his increasingly routine bouts of common sense against woke ideology, but the comedian’s latest assessment of where President Joe Biden is “killing it” suggested he may be far from red-pilled.

Following a cordial conversation with conservative country star Trace Adkins on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” the host sat down with presidential historian Jon Meacham and Puck News’ Julia Ioffe for a panel discussion. During the chat, Maher broke from objective reality to offer a highly subjective take on the president’s handling of the Russian invasion of Ukraine contending the “reason why he’s doing well is because he’s old.”

“No. I got to say, I’ve done my share of jokes about Joe Biden but, when I saw this poll last week that something like 73 percent of Americans think there should be an age limit,” the host detailed, “and I think 40 percent of them think that age should be 70, all I could think of is only a country as dumb as this one would think, something like that. The reason why he’s doing well is because he’s old.”

In response a member of the audience adding, “Bingo,” Maher replied, “Thank you, one guy.”

“He’s been around the block,” the comedian continued as he talked up Biden. “He has the experience. Every other culture gets this. When you’re young, you’re beautiful, and then you get wiser and less cute. But you’re wiser. Could we take advantage of the wiser point? I mean, he’s killing it in a lot of ways, including Russia. He was the guy who understood. Everybody else was like, what are we throwing money down the–Russia’s obviously going to win. And he said, let’s see. Maybe they–maybe Ukraine can win. And now Ukraine is winning. They kicked Russia’s ass this week.”

This claim that Biden somehow “understood” what no one else did stood in complete contrast to the reality on the ground in February leading up to the invasion when the talk from the White House centered around deterrent sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his allies. Even after the invasion had begun, Biden was still touting those sanctions that further exacerbated the economic struggles in America more than they appeared to slow down aggression against Ukraine.

The president said in part days after the conflict began, “There’s no sanction that is immediate, it’s not like you can sanction someone and say you’re no longer going to be able to be the president of Russia.”

Furthermore, Biden waited to act until the Russians were poised for their assault, weeks after members of Congress had urged for an act of deterrence that could have staved off the invasion that has now cost the United States billions by way of direct support payments and resources to Ukraine and untold sums more in economic losses.

Naturally, those realities wouldn’t stop Meacham, who has been a speech writer for the president and was in part responsible for the divisive Independence Hall rant from Biden as covered by Politico, from acting as a hype man touting “more experience in the Senate and as vice president than any other president in American history, by far,” as a measure of success.

Maher peppered in, “He got things done on climate,” without expanding — this being an apparent reference to the recently passed climate spending bill deceptively named the Inflation Reduction Act — that before doubling back to the only avenue he seemed comfortable arguing in favor of his opinion on Biden’s success with Ukraine claiming, “nobody saw this coming.”
