Lindsey Graham calls for special prosecutor to ‘look at Hunter Biden like they looked at Trump’

Hunter Biden’s laptop “is real” and an independent special counsel is necessary to look into criminal activity by the president’s son, according to South Carolin’s Senator Lindsey Graham.

Graham appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, saying the younger Biden’s dealings deserve the same scrutiny as Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, and 32 senators agree with him.

“One third of the US Senate has signed a letter asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to give US Attorney David Weiss the powers of a special counsel to investigate first son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings,” the letter read.

The letter cited a lack of public trust in authorities due to the politicization of the Justice Department under Garland’s direction as an impetus for the protection.

“Given the politicization of the DOJ under your watch and the importance of avoiding any appearance of impropriety, the undersigned request that you provide U.S. Attorney Weiss the full protections and authorities of a special counsel,” the senators said. “This is one important action that you can take that will go a long way in restoring faith in our governmental institutions.”

The U.S. Attorney for Delaware, a Trump appointee, has been overseeing the investigation into Hunter Biden, who recently made a $2 million payment to the IRS to avoid prosecution, according to the New York Post.

“I believe that you should have somebody looking at Hunter Biden other than a Delaware prosecutor,” Graham said. “We’re having a prosecutor in the guy’s home state. The prosecutor is a fine fellow, but can you imagine what the left would do if I suggested we should not have had a special counsel in the Mueller investigation? We had a guy. It worked.”

“There is no way of knowing the entire scope of the investigation, but evidence seems to be mounting that Hunter Biden committed numerous federal crimes, including, but not limited to, tax fraud, money laundering, and foreign-lobbying violations,” the letter to Garland stated. “Indeed, Senators [Chuck] Grassley and [Ron] Johnson have conducted an investigation for several years that has resulted in the public discourse of facts that support those criminal concerns, including the disclosure of financial records showing the Biden family’s close financial connections to the communist Chinese government and questionable foreign nationals. It is clear that Hunter Biden thrived off a ‘pay to play’ culture of access to his father, then Vice President Joe Biden in exchange for financial compensation.”

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton was among those who signed the letter organized by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).

“I don’t think we can trust Attorney General Merrick Garland not to politicize this investigation the way he’s politicized the Department of Justice,” Cotton said. “Remember last year when he sicked the Feds on parents attending school board meetings or earlier this year when he refused to enforce the law and arrest protesters outside of Supreme Court justices’ homes in clear violation of federal law. We’re not even asking for the appointment of a special counsel as happened, for instance, against Donald Trump. We’re merely asking the attorney general to provide special counsel protections to the U.S. attorney who is already investigating Hunter Biden’s many crimes. I think that’s a necessary step to ensure that that investigation is not politicized.”
