Rock star Dee Snider, the writer and singer of the iconic anti-establishment song “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” is upset that supporters of former President Donald Trump have co-opted his band Twisted Sister’s song as their veritable anthem.
“ATTENTION QANON, MAGAT FASCISTS: Every time you sing ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ remember it was written by a cross-dressing, libtard, tree hugging half-Jew who HATES everything you stand for. It was you and people like you that inspired every angry word of that song! SO F–K OFF!” he tweeted Friday.

There’s just one problem.
It was only a couple years ago that Snider was filmed singing “We’re Not Gonna Take It” on stage at a charity event alongside the entire Trump family.

So what gives?
Snider tried to explain it away in an additional tweet.
“Why not? This is at a charity event for Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Someone donated 50K if the Trumps joined me onstage. Now, unlike the rest of you FASCISTS when I heard Trump spew his ‘Fourth Reich’ Nazi shit I turned on him like a true American patriot! When will you?” he wrote.

“Nazi sh*t,” you say? The irony of his trash-talking is rich …
The fact is that Snider has become a member of the same ruling class establishment he used to rail against, except that he’s too blinded by anti-Trump hatred to realize it.
Free-thinking Trump supporters are, for all intents and purposes, the most ardent anti-establishment voices of the modern age. Yet according to Snider, they’re nothing but “magats.” It’s the exact same sort of dehumanizing language used by the Nazis.
“During the Holocaust, Nazis referred to Jews as rats. Hutus involved in the Rwanda genocide called Tutsis cockroaches. Slave owners throughout history considered slaves subhuman animals. In ‘Less Than Human,’ David Livingstone Smith argues that it’s important to define and describe dehumanization, because it’s what opens the door for cruelty and genocide,” according to an NPR piece from 2011.
So who’s the real fascist?
As for the true origins of “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” they actually trace back to former second lady Tipper Gore, a Democrat, and her war against risqué music.
“In the 1980s, the mutiny of heavy metal began, when many songs came under direct attack by the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), led by Al Gore’s then-wife Tipper Gore,” according to American Songwriter magazine.
“Already disturbed by lyrics in songs by artists like Madonna and Prince, the group quickly attacked the hard rock genre, which eventually led to the RIAA agreeing to put ‘Parental Advisory’ stickers on albums with what was deemed ‘explicit’ content.”
The group also released a list of “Filthy 15” songs, and the list just happened to include “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”
Snider and his fellow bandmates responded at the time by testifying before Congress about the importance of the freedom of speech.
“The beauty of literature, poetry, and music is that they leave room for the audience to put its own imagination, experiences, and dreams into the words,” Snider said.
He also rallied against his own music being “completely misinterpreted and unfairly judged by supposedly well-informed adults.”
“We cannot allow this to continue. There is no authority who has the right or the necessary insight to make these judgments, not myself, not the Federal Government, not some recording industry committee, not the PTA, not the RIAA, and certainly not the PMRC,” he said.
Dovetailing back to the present, which political side lobbies the hardest against free speech? Which political side says free speech is a threat to democracy? Which political side thinks offensive speech is violence?
It’s certainly not the Trump-supporting side …
It’s the liberal establishment. The same establishment that controls all the levers of power in America, including government, culture, media, and academia. The same establishment that revels in dehumanizing Trump supporters and in fact all conservatives. And the same establishment that lost its mind over the prospect of billionaire Elon Musk buying Twitter and making it a free speech zone once again.
This is also, sadly, the same side that Snider has chosen to ally himself with. Some might say he’s simply grown as a person. That’s one way of putting it. But another way to put it is that he’s sold out. In that regard, he’s certainly not alone …
