‘We had ZERO percent inflation’: Biden dazed and confused after July 8.5% inflation rate announced

The Labor Department released the inflation report Wednesday and while any fair-minded person can tell the economy is far from looking up, President Joe Biden has well and truly embraced Orwellian dystopian doublethink and, instead of saying “2+2=5,” declared 8.5 equals zero.

While holding a ceremony Wednesday to sign the PACT Act that, in part, addresses the healthcare needs of veterans who suffered illness or injury from exposure to burn pits, Biden attempted to draw a win on the consumer price index (CPI) coming in at 8.5 percent for the month of July. That number was indeed a drop from the year-to-year metric that marked a 40-year high in June at 9.1 percent, but it was also a far cry from what the president claimed.

“Before I begin today, I want to say a word about the news that came out relative to the economy. Actually, I just want to say a number. Zero,” he boasted. “Today, we received news that our economy had zero percent inflation in the month of July. Zero percent.”

“Here’s what that means: While the price of some things go up–went up last month–the price of other things went down by the same amount. The result,” Biden claimed, “zero inflation last month.”

According to Fox Business, the reported 8.5 percent was 0.2 percent lower than forecasts had predicted for July, but core prices still rose 0.3 percent to 5.9 percent over the previous year.

As depicted in a chart from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, CPI has spiked since Biden took office and the slight decline will likely barely register with consumers whose real average hourly earnings dropped 0.5 percent in July from June and 3 percent on an annual scale despite the president’s claim of increased wages.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre affirmed this talking point wasn’t just another gaffe from Biden, but rather the approved narrative the administration was moving forward with posting on social media, tweeting, “We just received the news that our economy had 0% inflation in July. While the price of some things went up, the price of others, like gas, clothing, and more, dropped.”

Gasoline prices may have fallen 7.7 percent in the month of July, but they are still up 44.9 percent from the year before. That reality didn’t stop Jean-Pierre from once again boasting of the “breathing room” that Biden’s economic policies were bringing Americans that were now saving “$106 per month on average” for families with two cars without acknowledging the hundreds of dollars more that was being spent as she made the false claim that “real wages went up.”

The administration was rightfully slammed for pushing the propaganda that saw food prices reach a 12-month increase of 10.9 percent, the highest since May 1979, as signs of improvement. Ned Ryun, senior fellow at American Greatness, summed up the president’s remarks on Twitter.

“New Leftist math: 8.5% inflation in July in fact equals 0. I mean, why not? Let’s redefine woman, recession, the very meaning of definition while we’re at…Oh wait, they already did that…Maybe they could change definition of gravity and then jump out of a plane??”

BlazeTV host and executive producer for “The Glenn Beck Program” Stu Burguiere put Biden’s notion of zero inflation in real numbers to show the burden Americans are dealing with that the president is lauding: “Something that cost: $100 in July 2020…was $105.40 in July 2021…is $114.36 in July 2022. This is the ‘0% inflation’ Biden is bragging about today.”

Others were quick to join in against the president’s outlandish claim.
