A deadly gunfight outside a British Columbia bank on Tuesday morning was “chaotic, tragic, dynamic and violent,” according to the local police chief.
Two suspects who allegedly exchanged fire with police died at the scene of the incident. Six officers were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds, three of whom were in serious condition and needed surgery, the CBC reported.
Responding cops, including members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, deployed to a call of an armed duo, purportedly outfitted in body armor, entering the Bank of Montreal in Saanich, B.C., on Vancouver Island.
The shootout reportedly started after the suspects exited the bank. So far, it has not been reported as to whether the suspects left the bank with any stolen cash.
One local resident shared startling smartphone footage of what happened on social media (see below — *warning for language), and cops have requested anyone else with footage to submit it to Saanich PD.
An investigation is ongoing, and the crime scene vicinity is apparently not yet fully reopened to the public.

Cops initially thought that a third suspect could be involved and that there might have been some sort of an explosive device allegedly in a vehicle connected to a suspect, which prompted an evacuation of homes and businesses near the bank, and the involvement of the RCMP bomb disposal unit.
Authorities lifted a shelter-in-place order for the local area on Tuesday evening when police determined no other suspects were actually at large.
Fortunately, none of the bank employees, customers, or other members of the public were harmed in the hail of bullets, which prompted Chief Constable Dean Duthie to observe that “the fact that no citizens were injured in any way is truly amazing,” the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
“Duthie said he had never seen a situation like it in his 27 years with the Saanich Police Department,” the news outlet added.
“I don’t know who fired first at this point. But there were multiple gunshots that were fired,” Duthie noted, although subsequent information suggests that the suspects allegedly opened fire first.
Watch a report aired on Wednesday by CBC:
“The Bank of Montreal said in a statement that it was deeply saddened to hear of the incident and thanked emergency responders for their fast assistance in keeping the public safe,” the Toronto Sun reported.
Separately, Canada’s far-left, authoritarian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is protected 24/7 by armed bodyguards, has proposed a ban on the sale, transfer, or importation of all handguns nationwide, thereby stripping the country’s law-abiding citizens of their means of self-defense.
Since Trudeau’s Liberal Party controls parliament, the House of Commons, in a coalition arrangement, the legislation is likely to pass. There is no equivalent in Canadian law to the U.S. Second Amendment.
According to AFP, gun sales in British Columbia and in other provinces, are through the roof as a result of Trudeau’s announcement. “Several gun stores in British Columbia province saw lines out the door within hours of the liberal leader’s declaration on Monday. Other shops across Canada said they sold out within days.”
An Ontario gun store told AFP, “This measure is only going to hurt legal gun owners. It’s not going to reduce any of the crime because the bad guys don’t follow the rules.”
