Rand Paul tries to pin COVID-stricken Fauci down in tense congressional rematch

While the media and the D.C. political class were mesmerized by the latest January 6 select committee hearing, Senator Rand Paul faced off with Dr. Anthony Fauci in a rematch during a Thursday hearing on the pandemic response and the Biden regime’s recommendation that everyone above 5-years-old should receive booster shots.

The octogenarian top medical adviser to President Biden who has been stricken with COVID despite receiving multiple jabs testified remotely before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee where he again sparred with the Kentucky Republican who has been his more dogged congressional critic.

‘Dr. Fauci, the government recommends everybody take a booster over age five,” Paul said, “are you aware of any studies that show reduction in hospitalization or death for children who take a booster?”

The career bureaucrat who has been dug in as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since Ronald Reagan’s first term, ducked and dodged Paul’s question in his typical slippery manner.

“So there are no studies and Americans should all know this,” Paul responded, “There are no studies on children showing a reduction in hospitalization or death with taking a booster, the only studies that were permitted, the only studies that were presented were antibody studies so they say if we give you a booster, now, a lot of scientists would question whether or not that’s proof of efficacy of a vaccine.”

“If I give you 10, or if I give a patient 10 MRNA vaccines and they make protein each time, or they make an antibody each time, is that proof that we should give 10 boosters, Dr. Fauci?” Senator Paul asked of the man who has been America’s face of COVID since the domestic outbreak.

“No,” answered Fauci. “I think that is somewhat of an absurd exaggeration Senator Paul,” as the testimony became increasingly heated, at one point causing Paul to exclaim, “That’s not science, that’s conjecture!”

Later in the session, Paul put Fauci on the spot over the unwillingness of the government to disclose the names of scientists who made bank on the vaccines, possibly including himself.

“Can you tell me that you have not received a royalty from any entity that you ever oversaw the distribution of money in research grants?” Paul asked the squirming Fauci who declined to give a direct answer, setting off an intense exchange with the lawmaker.

“Why don’t you let us know?” Paul persisted. “Why don’t you reveal how much you’ve gotten and from what entities? The NIH refuses, look, we asked them, we asked them, the NIH we asked them whether or not, who got it and how much, they refused to tell us, they sent it redacted, here’s what I want to know, it’s not just about you, everybody on the vaccine committee, have any of them ever received money from the people who make vaccines? Can you tell me that?”

Twitter users reacted to Paul’s futile effort to extract the truth from the evasive bureaucrat, including the frustrated senator himself.

In terms of his congressional confrontations with Fauci – some of which have been truly epic – Thursday’s hearing was more subdued but the one thing that’s consistent is the top national health expert’s reluctance to provide a concise and truthful answer to the questions that have been raised.
