Fox News host Brian Kilmeade ripped into George Washington University for its “political correctness” gone amok, announcing it will nix its iconic nickname, “Colonials.”

Kilmeade appeared on “Outnumbered” with Harris Faulkner and slammed the woke university, pointing out that it has “bigger issues” than the name of its mascot that it should be focusing on. In particular, its sky-high tuition rate.

“Is it the hat? What is it, Brian?” Faulkner asked Kilmeade at the beginning of the segment on Thursday.

“I think it’s Washington in particular. And then going at them through the Colonials. Evidently, colonials are something that they didn’t call themselves in the 1600s, 1700s prior to the American Revolution. But it was indicative of that time when Washington came up in the area in which this school is located,” Kilmeade explained.

Remember, if you have an American Indian mascot, that's offensive. If you have a white guy mascot (including pioneers, Rebels, and now "colonials" based on Washington himself) that's also offensive.

“So political correctness gone amok. Again, this is really insulting. I wouldn’t be surprised if in five years we’ll be talking about should George Washington come off George Washington University. So what’s also obscene about it is I think the school is $82,000 a year. I think that they have bigger issues. Where do you get that tuition down and leave the big giant guy in the colonel outfit alone,” he asserted.

The university made an announcement on Wednesday that the school’s board of trustees and a special committee had determined the name Colonials was not unifying enough.

The process to change the school’s nickname began back in 2019, according to Fox News. The special committee reportedly “found that the Colonials moniker does not adequately match the values of GW and can no longer serve its purpose as a name that unifies the community.”

The leftist committee went on to note that when the patriotic nickname was adopted in 1926, it lacked “thoughtful university-wide consideration.”

The committee goes on to lay out why the nickname was chosen, asserting that it referenced those who lived in the American colonies before the U.S. became independent. The committee then put forth a justification for those who oppose the nickname, claiming that “Colonials means colonizers who stole land and resources from Indigenous groups, killed or exiled Native peoples and introduced slavery into the colonies.”

They also disingenuously claimed that George Washington “firmly rejected” the term colonial. The committee continued by asserting that the term “was not used during the 1607-1776 Colonial era, and it did not become popular until the Colonial Revival period of the late 19th and 20th centuries.”

“The board recognizes the significance of changing the university’s moniker, and we made this decision only after a thoughtful and deliberate process that followed the renaming framework and special committee recommendation that considered the varying perspectives of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and athletics community,” board Chair Grace Speights declared in a statement.

“A moniker must unify our community, draw people together and serve as a source of pride. We look forward to the next steps in an inclusive process to identify a moniker that fulfills this aspiration,” she stated.

University President Mark S. Wrighton went on to proclaim that the school must “continue to lead with our values, strengths and the diversity” of the community.

“I was impressed by the principled and collaborative approach of the special committee, and it was clear this process was driven by research and robust engagement with the community. While some may disagree with the outcome, this process has determined that changing the moniker is the right decision for our university,” he commented.

A petition by students in 2019 got the ball rolling at the university to remove the name. It charged that the nickname Colonials is “extremely offensive by not only students of the university, but the nation and world at large.”

The school announced that a new nickname will be unveiled before the start of the 2023-24 academic school year.
