Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville may have derided President Joe Biden for perpetuating the idea that Russian President Vladimir Putin is responsible for increased energy costs, but his recommendation only showed that the left still refuses to accede to a productive solution that would stabilize the economy.

Carville joined CNN’s Jim Acosta Saturday on “CNN Newsroom” for a reaction to Biden’s Friday remarks on the “excellent” May jobs report where the president promoted his claim that actions he took curbed far greater ramifications that could have stemmed from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While he deflected any blame from himself, ignoring his failure to deter the invasion in the first place, Biden returned to the talking point that the economy was suffering from “Putin’s price hike.”

“I’m sure Putin is somewhat to blame,” Carville told Acosta, “but believe you me, they’re riding that and the Democrats have got to show that they really understand what’s going on in this economy. A lot of this is being manipulated for the purpose of profit. That’s what’s really happening here.”

The Democratic strategist returned to a progressive-backed idea promoted by the likes of Democratic Sens. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) that zeroed in on the greed of Big Oil as the prime culprit in gas prices continually setting new record high averages.

“I’m gonna tell you who’s doing well: Exxon; Chevron; Shell. Every oil company has stories today about how much they’re selling stocks back that they’re worth,” Carville said. “And if anybody doesn’t think that these oil companies are manipulating these prices to their advantage then I have no idea what to tell you cause you’re strictly naive.”

“Tax those windfall profits,” he suggested, “and return that money to consumers, in particular consumers that are making under $100,000 a year.”

Carville expressed that the broad powers of the 16th Amendment would allow for Congress to redistribute wealth in this massive overreach of federal powers and pushed for Biden to crackdown on the oil industry, saying, “The president needs to be strong and stand up to these oil companies.”

What wasn’t expressed as the “Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax” was championed was the touted line from the pandemic to “trust the experts.” Experts like American Exploration and Production Council CEO Anne Bradbury have said, “Policies like a so-called windfall profits tax are misguided and would likely backfire by further driving up energy costs for American families and businesses.”

“We believe that the solution to rising energy prices should be clear to our nation’s leaders: support domestic production of oil and natural gas and permit the pipelines and infrastructure needed to safely move energy to customers,” she stated.

However, the reality is that Democrats aren’t likely interested in a strong economy. They are interested in maintaining their hold moving forward and Carville admitted as much when he suggested, “We can do things to help people between now and November, I promise you.”

In other words, they will do whatever they can to make their party look good before the election without veering from their Green agenda and wealth redistribution goals.
