As part of his weekend show monologue on “Sunday Night in America,” Fox News’ Trey Gowdy rhetorically asked when Americans will become resolved enough to stop the killing of schoolchildren.
“There is no debate about the origin of life when it comes to children being murdered in a Texas elementary school,” he began.
“There is no debate about the sanctity of life when it comes to people being slaughtered in a Buffalo, New York grocery store or a church in downtown Charleston, or a church in California, or a concert in Las Vegas, or a nightclub in Florida,” Gowdy said.
“Schools and churches were once safe havens seemingly immune from the evils of the outside world. Those days have long since passed. Nothing is safe or immune anymore, your place of employment is at risk, your grocery stores, your malls, everything is seemingly at risk,” he contended.
“When 20 children were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School I knew this country would do something…. I knew this country would come together, despite our differences to make sure elementary schools were safe. That is the least that we could do.”
“Those who talk about the sanctity of life, prove it by protecting the lives of children,” Gowdy demanded.
“I knew this great country, birthed into existence with a fundamental belief in the alienable right to life would come together into something to protect the lives of children. There is no freedom and pursuit of happiness without life. And yet here we are again and again, and again, burying children,” he continued.
“This country cured diseases no one thought curable, split an atom, and liberated and rebuilt a continent. This country sacrificed so other people, oceans away, would have life and be free,” he explained.
“I love the freedom that we have as Americans,” he said. “Those freedoms come with responsibilities for certain, but we are a nation known for our freedoms. For that I am grateful.”
“There is seemingly nothing that we cannot do, except keep children alive while simply attending elementary school… Hearing that children were killed again saddens every person of good conscience.”
Gowdy concluded, “But, we should force ourselves to feel more than that. We should force ourselves to read the names of those children. Know their names. Know something about their lives, feel the pain of their parents and grandparents as best as we can. So finally, maybe, this country will get angry and tired and be resolved enough to stop the killing of schoolchildren.”
While it’s inarguable that the murder of children angers and saddens every person of good conscience, as Gowdy said, he did not provide any suggestions or ideas on what he would do differently in terms of policies or other solutions that would protect the lives of children and adults alike.
One man, at least, has taken matters into his own hands, which may be the only practical starting point if America is to protect the innocent from the predations of those unfit to coexist in a civilized society.
As BPR reported, a Texas father has taken it upon himself to stand guard at his son’s school following the elementary school massacre in Uvalde, Texas last week.
“I said I would just be out there unarmed to let people know that I’m watching. Let the parents have a little bit of relief,” Ed Chelby said in an interview with a KWTX.
“I can’t let this go,” he declared. “This is just a testament to the sleeplessness caused by the grief I experienced.”
“I just knew with my background in security and my background in the military that I had the skillset to actually provide some sort of security. I do live right across the street on the backside of the school. I have a son that goes there, my wife is one of the registered nurses there. I just felt overly compelled with my availability to step forward and do something. I think that’s the first thing any of us can do in the path forward is take the first step,” he advised.

For all you people demanding background checks, the forms completed ask if you take drugs, are under psychotherapy, etc. These questions answered by the buyer. Hello. There is no valid background check of ones mental status. The social media seems to know what these shooters are up to, but that does no good apparently.
You can say all you want about guns, but when you examine the facts, it is more than guns which are at fault. Not following secuty protocols, ineffective law enforcement, parents in denial of their hilds mental instability. The list goes on.
There was an expert recommendation report made by the Secret Service after Sandy Hook on HOW to harden soft targets like schools. NOT ONE Democrat has been willing to talk about it, NOT ONE Democrat has suggested we FUND every school to implement it and NOT ONE Democrat has called out the lack of REAL attention to the problems. It’s “gun bans” or nothing for Democrats…..because it’s not about protecting children, it’s about protecting a corrupt government from an armed FREE people. Duh oh.
Even if the 400 million guns in America were to vanish tomorrow – we would still have tragedies like this-because we live in a very violent culture, where violence is in our movies, video games, sports, WWE, MMA fighting cages, Road rage, Rap music, Gangsta” culture and black culture, where being “tough and respected” is of utmost importance and where even parents beat up officials at little league and football games. Couple this with all our sick and deranged people, violent drug addled homeless and you have a country growing in violence EVERYWHERE.
The headline should read…”When will Americans Resolve to Raising Their Children Properly, Instilling Morals, and Knowing Right From Wrong”!!!!!
I didn’t want to believe it, but it seems that the Democrats invite the tragedies to further their goal of gun confiscation and refuse any action to prevent those tragedies. In 2013, the Grassley-Cruz bill targeted felons, fugitives and those with serious mental illness to prosecute them if they illegally tried to buy guns. Even though the majority of the Senate approved it, the Democrats filibustered it and the bill died. Now we have the Uvalde massacre and Chuck Schumer refused to advance a bi-partisan bill that would have outlined the “Best Practices” that have been identified (after Sandy Hook) to implement in all schools that would prevent these needless killings; such as one controlled access point only, armed Resource Officers, or allow (not mandate) teachers who are trained to have concealed carry. Any one of the measures would have prevented the tragedy at Uvalde, in fact, they have prevented three mass casualty events since 2018 in schools that have implemented some or all of these “Best Practices”. Tell everyone. It is disgusting and abhorrent and evil that the Democrats refuse such simple solutions in favor of advancing their anti-constitutional ideology.
When will they refer to all the “turf wars” as mass shootings? “26 dead over the course of Memorial Day weekend, with dozens more injured, including young teenagers”. It doesn’t fit their narrative. No way these turf wars have legal guns so why eliminate them from honest people? They aren’t doing anything to get the thugs off the streets
