Trump on Hillary’s alleged role in Russia smear: ‘For 3 years I had to fight those crooked people off’

Former President Donald Trump is furious now that testimony appears to confirm that failed 2016 Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton played an instrumental role in the dissemination of the Alfa Bank smear.

“This is one of the greatest political scandals in history. For three years, I had to fight her off, and fight those crooked people off, and you’ll never get your reputation fully back. Where do I get my reputation back?” he said in exasperated remarks to Fox News.

“I had to fight them off. And if we had real leadership, instead of people like Mitch McConnell, they would do something about it. And guys like Bill Barr. They would have done something about it.”

He added that the trumped-up Alfa Bank smear distracted law enforcement and intelligence officials from what “could have been a real danger with Russia.”

Made to Fox News on Saturday, his remarks came a day after Clinton’s 2016 campaign manager, Robby Mook, testified during former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann’s trial that she herself had “agreed” to the smear.

As previously reported, Sussman was a Perkins Coie lawyer who, while working for Clinton’s 2016 campaign, allegedly colluded with a “tech executive” at an “Internet company” to intercept and access Trump’s Internet traffic data.

Sussmann then forwarded the data to the FBI, claiming at the time that he was merely acting as a “good citizen” versus working for someone. Last September, a federal grand jury indicted him over this lie.

The specific information Sussmann forwarded to Baker concerned Alfa Bank, a Kremlin-linked Russian financial institution.

He allegedly used the illegally obtained data argue that it “might be evidence of a covert communications channel between computer servers associated with the Trump Organization and with Alfa Bank,” as reported by The New York Times.

This argument was enough to convince the FBI to open yet another fruitless investigation into Trump.

“Former FBI General Counsel James Baker testified Thursday that the bureau investigated the data alleging a Trump connection to the Kremlin-linked bank, and found that ‘there was nothing there,'” according to Fox News.

Testifying in Sussmann’s trial on Friday, Mook was questioned about Clinton’s personal role in the dissemination of this information to the FBI.

“Mr. Mook, before the break you had testified that there was a conversation in which you told Ms. Clinton about the proposed plan to provide the Alfa-Bank allegations to the media; is that correct?” he was reportedly asked.

“Correct,” Mook replied.

“And what was her response?” he was then asked as a follow-up.

All I remember is that she agreed with the decision,” Mook responded.

Yet when the Alfa Bank smear went viral, Clinton acted surprised, writing on Twitter that “Computer scientists have apparently uncovered a covert server linking the Trump Organization to a Russian-based bank.”

Note that the tweet still remains up, and with no “misinformation” warnings included, despite the smear having been debunked years ago.

According to legal scholar Jonathan Turley, it’s unlikely, based on previous patterns, that Clinton will ever be held accountable for the Alfa Bank smear, let alone for spreading blatant misinformation. And this despite she herself pretending to be one of the great champions fighting alleged misinformation/disinformation.

“Months after approving the Alpha Bank strategy, Clinton called in December 2016 to censor opponents whom she accused of spreading falsehoods to try to influence elections. She declared that ‘it’s now clear that so-called ‘fake news’ can have real-world consequences,'” he wrote in a column for The Hill published Saturday.

“Indeed, Clinton has pushed for state and corporate censorship while demanding a ‘global reckoning’ with those who spread disinformation. Of course, Sussmann could still face the real consequence of conviction given the strength of the evidence against him. Yet, there will likely not be consequences — let alone a ‘reckoning’ — for Hillary Clinton.”

Nevertheless, following Mook’s testimony on Friday, #LockHerUp began trending on Twitter:
