Lincoln Memorial forced to close after grads leave broken bottles, spilled wine; Georgetown U. blamed

The Lincoln Memorial was forced to briefly close on Saturday after a celebration by graduating students from a “local university” left behind an ungodly mess including broken bottles along with spilled alcoholic beverages, sending cleanup crews into action to clear the debris before reopening the area.

It was an ugly display from those who will soon be working in positions of influence and importance and while the National Park Service wasn’t specific on which school was at fault, many on social media were quick to suggest that it was Georgetown University, the elitist institute of higher education in the nation’s capital city.

The Saturday morning, the NPS posted an announcement to Twitter that, “The Lincoln Memorial is closed this morning following a local university graduation celebration that left litter, broken bottles and spilled wine and champagne covering the steps. We will reopen as soon as the area has been cleaned and made safe.”

“The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., was shut down Saturday morning after a crowd of seniors from Georgetown University left broken bottles and spilled wine on the monument’s steps,” Fox News reported, “Hundreds of students had gathered to watch the sunrise Saturday after the senior ball on Friday. A few took a dip in the Reflecting Pool.”

Anthony Tilghman, a freelance reporter for the local weekly African-American newspaper Washington Informer tweeted images of broken bottles with the Reflecting Pool in the background and that “It is reported to be students from Georgetown University.”

Twitter users reacted, with many also pointing fingers at Georgetown U.

Washington D.C. CBS affiliate WUSA reached out to Georgetown about the rumors.

According to a Georgetown spokesperson, “We are monitoring the concerning and disappointing activity at the Lincoln Memorial. While Georgetown is one of several institutions celebrating graduation ceremonies this weekend, we have had no University-sponsored events at or around the Lincoln Memorial. We expect all members of our community to be responsible citizens of our campus and our city and be respectful of the history and institutions of Washington, D.C.”

The mess left by the disrespectful students was soon cleaned up, “Thanks to our facilities staff for the quick cleanup this morning. The Lincoln Memorial is open. We appreciate your patience,” the NPS tweeted.

Celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial are set to begin this weekend.

  2. Anyone think they’ll do any better once in a job or office?? I don’t!! What a DISGRACE – like a DEMOcrat rally!!

  3. Let me get this straight. Some drunk kids made a mess so let’s blame a school. Sigh. Just a different flavor of collectivist, Chris is.

  4. Degree or no, these are dimwitted f..cks who exemplify “spare the rod and spoil the child”

  5. Maybe Georgetown U. should hold a class on class. Im talking about defining the difference between LowClass and HighClass. Oh wait , the left cant even define what a woman is. Maybe a class on anatomy also.
