A contentious altercation saw a conservative speaker forced off campus at Saint Louis University (SLU) recently, adding yet another chapter to the endless debates over how colleges should handle speakers with views unpopular with some students.
Elisha Krauss, a speaker from the Young America’s Foundation (YAF), showed up to speak after SLU refused a contract for a four-week speaking schedule on cancel culture, according to the group. However, about two hours into her unofficial lecture, she was escorted off school premises by campus police, where she continued to hold her event on the sidewalk.
Speaking to Ian Haworth of The Daily Wire, Krauss related the event, where she described the verbal abuse hurled at her while the event was still going on campus:
“[I’m] proud to take a stand against the intolerant left who for two hours called me an old a**, a b***h, and a fascist.”
Krauss was particularly critical of the university’s decision to allow the protesters to remain while booting her out, and felt that the treatment was evidence of serious bias, especially when contrasted with the Black Lives Matter event that took place in roughly the same part of campus, which the official YAF website denounced:
“St. Louis University, which purports to be a Catholic university, escorted the YAF activists and Krauss from the center of campus––despite BLM protestors being allowed to host many protests in the same spot. The pro-abortion counter protestors were allowed to remain at the same location for an additional 20 minutes.”
YAF took to Twitter to angrily denounce what it called double standards:

The chairman of SLU’s YAF branch, Nick Baker, also issued a statement on the YAF website condemning the university in harsh language:
“For a university that is ‘committed to freedom of expression,’ it is shameful that there are so many hurdles in place to prevent speakers from appearing on campus. Unfortunately, these tyrannical administrators have scared so many conservative students into hiding. Our YAF chapter is slowly but surely working to turn things around.”
SLU is no stranger to controversy over its public speaking policies. In December, Daily Wire firebrand Matt Walsh was protested by large groups while giving a speech on campus. Walsh ended up leaving the building to try to agitate the protesters by repeatedly asking “what is a woman?” while escorted by security, but the protesters didn’t appear to be in the mood and continued to simply boo at him. Walsh then took to Twitter to gloat:
I went out to say hi to my protesters and give them a chance to answer my “what is a woman” question. They declined, it seems. pic.twitter.com/1qRzOPgod9
