The explosive leak of a draft opinion that the U.S. Supreme Court could be poised to strike down Roe v. Wade rocked the political world late Monday, a stunning security breach that has sent abortion activists into a frenzy with Democrats likely to demand extreme measures including ending the filibuster and court packing, and it may not be the only leak.
The document, reportedly written by Justice Samuel Alito who hasn’t been shy about his pro-life views is a “full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. ” according to Politico which obtained a copy of the draft.
In its own reporting on the leaked document, CNN states that it learned Chief Justice John Roberts will once again side with the court’s four leftists, a common practice for the George W. Bush appointee who has been criticized by conservatives. The network’s information is as has been typical, attributed to anonymous sources.
John Roberts did not want to completely overturn Roe, meaning he would have dissented from Alito's draft opinion, sources tell @JoanBiskupic. Sources add that Roberts is willing to uphold Miss. law that would ban abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy https://t.co/zR5YoKNJUp

According to CNN, “It appears that five justices would be voting to overturn Roe. Chief Justice John Roberts did not want to completely overturn Roe v. Wade, meaning he would have dissented from part of Alito’s draft opinion, sources tell CNN, likely with the court’s three liberals.”
Reporting that all five conservative justices are united, CNN noted that “Roberts is willing, however, to uphold the Mississippi law that would ban abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy, CNN has learned. Under current law, government cannot interfere with a women’s choice to terminate a pregnancy before about 23 weeks, when a fetus could live outside the womb.”
The document, which is dated February 2022 is only a draft opinion and, as CNN noted, “The final opinion has not been released and votes and language can change before opinions are formally released. The opinion in this case is not expected to be published until late June.”
While the court’s final ruling has yet to be announced, the leak energized a Democrat base that had been demoralized with public opinion shifting against the ruling party in an election year with the fate of freedom in America hanging in the balance. And shortly after Politico dropped its bombshell, the Supreme Court building was descended upon by angry protesters.
A couple hundred people or so have gathered tonight outside of the Supreme Court to protest the draft decision overturning Roe v Wade. They're chanting slogans like "abortion is healthcare" and "my body, my choice." pic.twitter.com/kIFwLjBDAP

Twitter reacted to the SCOTUS leakage.
John Roberts has no control over his court. He will be remembered for this leak. Among other things.

Shouldn't Chief Justice John Roberts be out of his mind livid about this Roe v. Wade leak? In its 234 year history, we've never seen this type of reprehensible monkey business from SCOTUS

Only one question regarding these SCOTUS leaks remains:
Will the desk John Roberts hides under be pine or mahogany?— RazörFist (@RAZ0RFIST) May 3, 2022
With everyone talking about the SCOTUS leak there is one thing everyone is forgetting. John Roberts is a very weak justice.

This leak is a slap in the face to John Roberts. His court isn’t airtight enough to keep its documents secure.

The timing of the leak (s) is a gift for Democrats with the media coverage of the possible return of decisions regarding abortion to the states, guaranteeing that boatloads of dark money will be flowing into Florida and Texas, both of which have Republican governors who have recently signed laws placing limitations on abortion and fueling opposition candidates.
Democrats will also benefit immensely with a shift in media coverage away from the border crisis, crushing inflation including record gas prices, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and the disastrous results of President Joe Biden’s policies which have devastated America in less than 18 months into his term.
In addition, it gives the party the opportunity to unleash the angry Biden who is set to speak on the Politico leak on Tuesday morning, stirring up emotions in advance of what could be a sequel to the summer of 2020 when cities burned following the death of George Floyd.
Concerns about the safety of the conservative justices and their families should be taken seriously because many believe all hell will break loose if Roe v. Wade is indeed struck down.
