Marjorie Taylor Greene confronts rabid reporters who won’t read her texts in fiery exchange over Jan 6 riot

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called out the media for its duplicitous coverage of the Jan. 6 committee investigation during a fiery exchange where reporters refused to read out quotes they were ascribing to her.

As part of the lead up to the May 24 primary, Greene was joined by five fellow candidates vying for the Republican nomination in the 14th Congressional District for a debate Sunday night hosted by the Atlanta Press Club. The congresswoman participated in a press conference for the event where she was confronted by reporters Wilborn Nobles and Tia Mitchell from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

During the questioning, the reporters brought up a report from CNN said to contain text messages that former President Donald Trump’s then-chief of staff Mark Meadows had sent or obtained in the time surrounding the events of Jan. 6 and had turned over to the investigative committee.

“Do you have any text messages that you want to read the entire text because right now,” Greene explained, “I don’t know if those are my text messages. So, I don’t know what you’re referring to.”

When Nobles attempted a follow-up, Greene interrupted him, “Wait, do you wanna read the actual text messages or do you wanna read headlines and spin…because until you’re going to talk about actual text messages, there’s no reason to talk about it.”

Mitchell attempted to come to the defense of Nobles and continued in the same vein questioning the sincerity of Greene’s position, “How would you not recall such important conversations from your participating in, leading up to…”

Greene cut her off as well and reminded her that Jan. 6 had occurred something like “15, 16 months ago” and that, “I don’t recall hardly any of my text messages that long ago…I don’t recall our personal conversation word-for-word that you and I had when I was asking you if you were ok after the riot and I was very upset.”

“So it’s impossible for me to say if I recall if those are my text messages when none of you have read what the text messages actually say,” she reiterated.

“The January 6 committee doesn’t care about riots because they encouraged them, funded them and cheered them on when it was happening in American cities. But all of a sudden the only riot they care about was the one in the Capitol,” Greene fired off, a position she had affirmed a few days earlier.

“So, it’s all a political witch hunt,” the lawmaker concluded to the press before thanking them and walking off stage. “That’s where we’re going to finish.”

CNN admitted in their sharing of a selection of messages from the more than 2,300 that Meadows had provided to the committee, that they did not encompass the entirety of the chief of staff’s conversations. Even provided without context, as they are, they are rather innocuous and show Greene had maintained concern throughout and after the incident.

On the day of, she was said to have written to Meadows, “Mark I was just told there is an active shooter on the first floor of the Capitol Please tell the President to calm people This isn’t the way to solve anything,” and “Mark we don’t think these attackers are our people. We think they are Antifa. Dressed like Trump supporters.”

The following day she reportedly texted him again, “Yesterday was a terrible day. We tried everything we could in our objection to the 6 states. I’m sorry nothing worked. I don’t think that President Trump caused the attack on the Capitol. It’s not his fault. Antifa was mixed in the crowed [sic] and instigated it, and sadly people followed. But when people try everything and no one listens and nothing works, I guess they think they have no other choice. Absolutely no excuse and I fully denounce all of it, but after shut downs all year and a stolen election, people are saying that they have no other choice. I defended Trump last night on Newsmax. He has been the greatest President. I will continue to defend him. And you if anyone attacks you. I hope you are ok. I feel badly for everyone.”

Then, on Jan. 17, 2021, Greene she allegedly stated, “In our private chat with only Members, several are saying the only way to save our Republic is for Trump to call for Marshall law. I don’t know on those things. I just wanted you to tell him. They stole this election. We all know. They will destroy our country next. Please tell him to declassify as much as possible so we can go after Biden and anyone else!”

Before she left the conference, Greene stated plainly when asked if the committee had reached out to her, “Nope.”

  1. The trick is make them produce in full, in written form the complete text. Like Kayleigh demanded, proof. Then move on until truthful texts can be produced and discussed at that time, you know like in court.

  2. Another woman who doesn’t meet the qualifications for public service because she identifies as a conservative!

  3. The committee won’t ever call her because, as Jack Nicholson famously said in “A Few Good Men” , “you can’t handle the truth”. Without having Pelosi go on the stand under oath to be questioned by those, other than the fawning members of the sham committee, who really do want the truth, this is Salem 1637, and nothing more.
