Fox News’ Laura Ingraham dressed down GOP senators whom she believes have effectively turned a blind eye to the workings of the Chinese Communist Party and the interests of the American people by expressing their support for a rollback of tariffs imposed on Chinese imports by former President Trump.
In all, 19 Republican senators have apparently swallowed the Biden regime’s blue pill with assurances from “experts” that lifting tariffs on China will ease the current record-high inflation affecting the daily lives of every American citizen. They signed onto a Senate bill last summer called the United States Innovation and Competition Act of 2021. The usual suspects; Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney are signatories, of course.
During Wednesday’s “The Ingraham Angle,” the host cited a Politico report that read, “Republicans, despite tough talk on China, are lining up behind the Senate package crafted by Finance Committee leaders Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID) that would award tariff exemptions to more than 2,200 imports that got them under Trump, along with the directive to reopen the exemption process.”
Ingraham argued that in the aftermath of the alleged Wuhan lab leak of the novel coronavirus and Americans learning exactly how much of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) believed to mitigate against the COVID-19 virus is imported from the communist nation, Americans were hoping to wrangle in that dependence on foreign goods and bring production back to America. But two years later, she said, politicians are counting on the perceived short memories of their constituents to go along with their maneuverings.
“Lifting tariffs on $300 billion worth of imports every year will provide even more incentive for U.S. manufacturers to send their production lines to the communist superstate,” Ingraham said. “They’ll both have cheaper labor costs and they won’t have to pay import duties.”
“For decades, Congress cut tariffs without much thought. But we cannot continue to do that when it comes to products made in China,” Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio told the Daily Caller last week. “We should do everything possible to move supply chains out of China, but this so-called ‘China bill’ is actually subsidizing manufacturing in Communist China. It’s ridiculous.”
The Republican senators who complete the list of 19 are Roy Blunt (MO); Shelley Moore Capito (WV); John Cornyn (TX); Steve Daines (MT); Chuck Grassley (IA); Lisa Murkowski (AK); Rob Portman (OH); Jim Risch (ID); Mike Rounds (SD); Ben Sasse (NE); Dan Sullivan (AK); Thom Tillis (NC); Roger Wicker (MS); Todd Young (IN).
“The regime that lied about COVID, tortures religious minorities, starves its own people, and uses slave labor is now gonna be rewarded by the United States, the very country it is working to undermine and eclipse every minute of every day,” Ingraham concluded. “I hope these Republican senators willing to sell out the American people to China will see the folly of their ways. But I’m not gonna hold my breath.”
A Morning Consult poll released last week indicates that “73 percent of American voters support the U.S. government’s use of trade remedies against China, including 71 percent of Democrats, 70 percent of Independents and 76 percent of Republicans.”
Moreover, a Pew Research poll found in 2021 that nine out of 10 Americans believe China to be an enemy nation and fear China as a malevolent global force more so than Russia.
The accompanying House bill concerning China – the COMPETES Act – passed by only a twelve vote margin. Every Republican member voted against it except for – that’s right – Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL).
