MSNBC analyst: ‘If Jesus were alive today, he would be called a groomer’

Matthew Dowd, MSNBC analyst and self-professed Christian, said on Wednesday that if “Jesus were alive today, he would be called a groomer” as well as “woke” and a “socialist.”

The egregious statement came during a discussion on “Deadline: White House” where host Nicolle Wallace was discussing Michigan Republican state Sen. Lana Theis who accused her Democratic colleague Sen. Mallory McMorrow of wanting to “groom” young children.

Dowd was asked to chime in when the conversation turned to faith, and he used the opportunity to bash Republicans and the conservative interpretation of the religion.

“This is something that I have tried to talk about: Being a Christian, having grown up Catholic, having been an altar boy and all of that – how the faith has been captured by a small segment of our society who have tried to define it in a way that Jesus never had defined it, and actually the opposite way of Jesus,” he explained.

That’s when he dropped the bomb in a very smug fashion.

“The entire message of the gospels of the Easter holidays was love one another. And I have said this before, and I’ll say it again: If Jesus Christ was alive today, He would be called a groomer, He would be called woke, and He would be called a socialist if He was alive today.”

Naturally, the accusation rubbed many Twitter users the wrong way:

  5. Pretty much tells us everything we need to know about his “expertise” on Jesus, the Bible and religion in general.

  6. Don’t know who he’s talking about but my JESUS IS ALIVE and forgives sinners who will turn to Him. And as disgusting as Dowd is Jesus would still forgive him if he repented and turned from sin.

  7. You won’t find anything in Scripture or Sacred Tradition about Jesus teaching sexuality to children, much less subversive, dangerous things meant to convince them to do things with Him. Nor will you find anything where He says a command economy is the way to go, or that economic inequality is an evil that needs to be eradicated. So, where does all this leftism come from?
    The shortest answer I can give is, they only think Jesus would side with them because they’re crazy enough to believe their deranged, doomed-to-failure causes. If we accept Mr. Taleb’s thesis on why the stubborn tend to win out in the culture war, we better remember that insanity and conviction are good sources for stubbornness, and work from there.

  9. Hey Matthew, just to let you know, Jesus IS alive and well. if you haven’t heard or read, he rose on the third day! He took upon himself your sins so that you have an avenue for redemption with God. I suggest do a bit more reading and less talking.

    1. Jack Posobiec’s point is well-taken, and he could’ve added “I was raised Catholic” implies you ran away from it for some reason. This guy certainly did.
