The aftershocks from the 2020 summer of rage when Democrats threw in with anti-cop activists to defund and handcuff police after the death of George Floyd continue to reverberate with tremors now being felt in wealthy areas of deep-blue Los Angeles where residents are being targeted by street gangs.
While violent crime is way up in Democrat-controlled cities from coast to coast, few have been left more vulnerable than the citizens in the City of Angels where a proliferation of gang activity along with the policies of District Attorney George Gascón have turned once secure neighborhoods into happy hunting grounds for roving bands of criminals who are following people home and then robbing them.
This week, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a community alert for residents to keep their guard up.
According to the LAPD, “Due to an increase in violent street robberies, Robbery-Homicide Division has become aware of an ongoing crime trend of follow-home robberies. Suspects have been locating victims in Los Angeles, following them, and then committing the robberies as the victim arrives home or at their business.”

“Victims have been followed from such places like Melrose avenue, the Jewelry District of Los Angeles, nightclubs and high-end restaurants in Los Angeles,” the bulletin reads. “The target of these robberies has been expensive jewelry, including watches and necklaces, as well as expensive purses. Victims have also been targeted for the type of vehicle they are driving.”
One incident was horribly captured on video as a woman was mowed down by a vehicle in broad daylight this week by thugs who stole her expensive watch.
The victim had been shopping at a store in the city’s Jewelry District and after leaving, she was followed by thieves who made their move when she stopped at an intersection, smashing her driver-side window. She then exited the vehicle in an attempt to flee the predators who chased her down and struck her with their own vehicle, sending her flying before making off with the watch

The robbers “are looking out for people wearing expensive high-end jewelry and targeting them,” said LAPD Captain Jonathan Tippet, who heads up a special task force on the follow-home robberies. “Many of these attacks started out violently and without any provocation or opportunity by the victims to even comply willingly,”
Fox News Digital caught up with Captain Tippet.
“We have seen countless individuals traumatized by having a gun pointed at them,” he said. “Many others are dealing with the trauma and injuries from being tackled, kicked, beaten, punched and are pistol-whipped to the head.”
“In my 34 years in the LAPD, I have never seen this type of criminal behavior” in such large, coordinated groups, Tippet said, telling Fox News that “the gangs are primarily based out of South Los Angeles, but the force has seen individuals associated with these gangs who live outside of the county.”
The LAPD alert instructs law-abiding citizens to “Be aware of one’s surroundings for anything unusual or out of the ordinary before exiting your car, walking out of a restaurant, stores, malls, or clubs,” as well as to “be cautious of displaying high value property in public such as: purses, watches and jewelry.”
Victims are also encouraged not to resist robbers.
