While holding a “Save America” rally in Selma, North Carolina Saturday, former President Donald Trump mused on the repeated failings of corporate media and the left to pin him with wrongdoing and one particular tongue-in-cheek remark had Fox News host Greg Gutfeld asking Tuesday, “Is 45 the most honest alive?”
During the event, Trump touched on many of the issues Americans are faced with every day, including the pressures from activists. He also brought up the ongoing investigations into him and recent developments into probes on his business dealings through efforts to acquire his tax returns.
“A friend of mine, smart guy, very successful guy, a lot of common sense, he said, ‘You know you’ve been investigated for years and years, millions and millions of pages of documents. They found nothing. You are the cleanest guy on earth,'” Trump told the crowd.
“When you think about it,” he mused to laughter, “I’ve got to be the cleanest…I think I’m the most honest human being perhaps that God ever created, perhaps.”
“Perhaps? Why is he waffling?” the host of “Gutfeld!” asked before elaborating.
“What he has said’s got to be true. After all, he is the most honest human ever,” he continued to joke before pointing out how Trump had gone into the “woke war on women” and addressed his belief that President Joe Biden may prove to be the worst president ever.
“If you took the five worst presidents in history and put them together, would they have done the damage Joe Biden has done to our country in just 15 months,” Gutfeld said before playing a clip of Trump expressing the same.
Fox News contributor Tyrus pointed to the couched way Trump said “perhaps” but did note the differences between what the former president said and what he did.
“He’s been right about all of the things that were supposedly huge distractions that took away from his deeds that were good and the argument was, yeah he does the deeds but his tweets…says he’s all over the place and everything is a conspiracy.”
“Turns out, he’s pretty much around 95 percent right,” Tyrus stated “…And that’s amazing to me. Because there was so much effort to disprove the truth.”
“Yes, he looks better and better in the rearview mirror,” Gutfeld agreed. “You know, Kat, he is obviously trolling the media who refuse to see this as a joke. We all are in on this, we all find it hilarious, but there are people who actually fact-check this. You can’t be serious! He says he’s the most honest person.”
“And people still don’t understand this,” the host lamented.
The panel went on to discuss the myriad campaign promises that Trump had kept and how, in retrospect, they believe the record will find he has actually been honest, which made Gutfeld remark, “That’s the funny thing. It’s funny because it is kind of true.”
