Psaki’s blood boils over bussing illegal migrants to D.C., but Conservatives agree it’s a bad stunt

The governor of Texas — with some help from Fox News’s Peter Doocy — has triggered White House press secretary Jen Psaki, who suddenly seems to have a case of “NIMBY” when it comes to bussing illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C.

As reported Thursday in BizPac Review, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a new plan for dealing with the crisis at his state’s border with Mexico — a crisis that is certain to get much worse when Title 42, a Trump-era measure that helped prevent migrants from entering the United States during a public health emergency, is lifted on May 23: Abbott intends on loading the anticipated surge of undocumented migrants onto chartered buses and sending them to D.C.

When asked by Doocy if D.C. was preparing to help the influx of migrants when they arrive, Psaki suddenly seemed to adopt a “Not In My BackYard” mentality, choosing to call Governor Abbott’s authority into question rather than answer Doocy.

“Well, I’m not aware of what authority the governor would be doing that under,” Psaki said. “I think it’s pretty clear this is a publicity stunt. His own office admits that a migrant would need to voluntarily be transported and that he can’t compel them to, because, again, enforcement of our country’s immigration laws lies with the federal government, not with the state.”

Doocy pressed harder, asking again about D.C.’s response.

“Well, listen, I don’t know, but I know that the governor of Texas or any state does not have the legal authority to compel anyone to get on a bus,” Psaki snapped back.

At a press conference Wednesday to announce his aggressive plan, Abbott pointed to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s projection of as many as 18,000 migrant apprehensions per day once Title 42 is lifted, a prediction that signals more than a half a million anticipated border crossings a month.

“The Biden Administration’s open-border policies have paved the way for dangerous cartels and deadly drugs to pour into the United States, and this crisis will only be made worse by ending Title 42 expulsions,” Abbott said. “With the end of Title 42 expulsions looming next month, Texas will immediately begin taking unprecedented action to do what no state has done in American history to secure our border.”

So, are the governor’s actions just a “publicity stunt” as Psaki claimed?

Well, the fact that Abbott’s plan relies on the voluntary compliance of the migrants — a fact that was left out of Abbott’s fiery press conference, but was revealed in a statement from the governor’s office — has even some Republicans questioning the true intent.

“Governor Abbott has directed TDEM to charter buses and flights to transport migrants who have been processed and released from federal custody to Washington, D.C.,” the release reads. “To board a bus or flight, a migrant must volunteer to be transported and show documentation from DHS. Mayors and county judges can notify TDEM of any DHS-facilitated drop-off of migrants in their communities so that the agency can provide appropriate transportation.”

As The Blaze notes, “To voluntarily go to D.C., illegal immigrants will have to show documentation that they’ve already been processed by DHS.”

It is this detail that has silenced many of the initial cheers for Abbott’s bold move.

“It’s a gimmick,” tweeted Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-TX).

Michael Quinn Sullivan, publisher of the Texas Scorecard, agreed.

“It’s a stunt, and not a very good one,” said Sullivan. “Seal the border. Forcibly march the illegal aliens back across That’s real.”

“An optional bus ride to DC is not real,” Sullivan added.

And Blaze host and former Texas gubernatorial candidate Chad Prather urged the governor to “do better.”

“Big government shill, campaign stunt, and actually, it sucks,” Prather said in a tweeted video. “Do better, Greg Abbott. A lot better.”

  1. Even if Gov. Abbot manages to get invaders to agree to board the buses, how far would the buses get when the ruling cabal in Huashengdun “orders” banks to refuse to process bus company credit cards when attempting to buy fuel anywhere outside Texas?

  2. I don’t get it. If the Federal Government can fly or bus the illegals anywhere in the country without documentation, why can’t Texas do the same? Since title 42 is being ended in May, I think all these ILLEGAL ALIENS should be sent to those people who are ending it…and they’re in DC (Congress and especially Obiden)! Since these people refuse to see what’s actually going on at the border, bring the border to them. These people need to see the problems they are causing firsthand. From what I understand, FL is going to do the same thing but they’re sending their illegals to Maryland. I’d really love to see a half a million illegals (per month) end up at Congresses doorstep! What’s good for the goose (Congress & El Presidente) is good for the gander (Texas & Florida). Since they (dems) started it, they (dems) can be overwhelmed by it.just like the rest of the country.

  5. The Federal Travel Agents (former border patrol) are dumping illegals in Texas and flying others around the country. So Texas can do the same and send them to DC where they can be taken care of by Congress. But some should be flown to Pelosi’s house.

  10. Pissaki going nuts over the idea that illegal aliens would be dropped off on the DC door step and not in some unsuspecting neighborhood is all the more reason to do it. I doubt Abbott has the guts to do it. Beside the illegal aliens get to choose where they want to be dropped off anyway. Only two and a half more years to go.

    1. Exactly! Law requires they enter the country through border gates, get a two year visa, learn English, and take a Constitution test. Enforce it, or send them back.

    1. Or pay them to get on the bus. To take a payment is considered a choice and therefor a voluntary action. Right?

      It is costing the state for them to stay and I’m sure someone could come up with a figure to offer them to get on the bus. And I’m sure that most of Texas would agree to it.

I watch video of every kind of person from Africa, Middle East, Asia and Mexico, Central America, etc come streaming across our border every day- I am just shocked. Most of these people are uneducated, unskilled and illiterate people-coming her for all the FREE STUFF they have heard they can get. Most end up on some form of government assistance, or the criminal justice system. The taxpayer is just being overwhelmed with all the costs Democrats are causing-this is not the America I grew up in, served for in the Marines- I am sickened and ashamed of what this country has become.

  26. Only one ultra liberal lives in our neighborhood … they have a “Widow’s Apartment”. About two months ago they moved in a illegal family. Family became scarce when the oldest one showed up in my backyard unannounced … told him it wasn’t smart sneaking up on a X Coast Guardsman … yep, stays behind their fence these days. They (illegals) are going to show up anywhere, DC needs to adopt a 1/2 million or so.

Must be a slow news day and BPR wanting and probably desperately needing something to bolster their own need of their continued success after initiating a B.S. format and losing a lot of people because of it! The only build up is being done now is that of BPR.

  31. Just offer them a bunch of freebies like Obamabiden’s team has done to get them started in the right direction. Then lie like a democrat and tell them that Obamabiden has plenty more freebies coming once they get to DC. Then hand out some large circus tents and camping supplies to some of the buses and drop them off at Martha’s vineyards (under cover of nightfall) and let them set up camp (squatters rights) right next door to the Obamas and send some to that private beach in Delaware. Plus, so that the rest of the democrats won’t feel left out, send some to every blue state there is. Even rent entire cruise ships and send thousands to Hawaii. After all, we wouldn’t want senators Hirono and Schatz along with congressmen Case and Kahele to feel left (see what I did there) out!

The federal government is mandated to continue the wall, but China Joe and the democrat congress are determined to bankrupt as many red states as possible. Governor DeSantis is going to send all illegals to Rehobeth Beach Delaware, where Biden’s home is, that get flown into Florida in the dead of night. China Joe is all upset about the Ukraine borders, as he should be, but he is allowing the world to invade our country through its completely open southern border. How much are the Mexican drug cartels paying Joe to keep those borders open so they can smuggle in People and drugs, including Fentanyl that is killing almost 100,000 Americans every year. The deaths of our children are on China Joe’s hands for failing to close the border to keep out the poison. FJB
