Former Super Bowl champ says NFL’s politics drove him to retirement: ‘The Lord showed me the door’

Former Super Bowl champion Anthony Sherman claimed during Law & Crime’s “Coptales and Cocktails” podcast on Thursday that the woke policies of the NFL concerning COVID and its leftist politics prompted him to retire from professional football.

Sherman was part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ team when it won Super Bowl LIV. He left the league after that and became a sheriff’s deputy, asserting that he had met his goal of playing in the NFL for ten years and remarked that “the Lord showed [him] the door” when the NFL started engaging in leftist politics.

“Do you miss it?” co-host Sean “Sticks” Larkin asked Sherman during the podcast.

“I don’t,” he responded. “My goal was 10 [years], and I got 10. And the Lord showed me the door with all of the political stances the NFL was making, the COVID policies, all of this nonsense. He was like, ‘Hey, I’m going to make it easy for you. I gave you 10 and then head on down the road.’ And then he opened up another door with all this law enforcement stuff. And it’s been a good transition so far.”

Sherman was asked about being a strong supporter of law enforcement while he was a player, given the NFL’s social justice bent and its support of anti-police sentiments pushed by players and celebrities. He contended that his viewpoint was respected by other players and was pretty much a non-topic in the Chiefs’ locker room.

“I kind of had one of those, like, ‘this is who Sherman was, this who Sherman is, like, leave him alone,’” he stated. “He’s going to have his opinion, and he’s not going to change his mind about it — any aspect of that. I kind of demanded — not demanded, but had a respect in the locker room, that it wasn’t, ‘Oh, geez, here comes Sherman,’ whatever. It was kind of one of those things where it was, I am who I am, and if you don’t like it, then we don’t have to talk. I’ve got my friends. I don’t need many more.”

“The locker room was great,” Sherman said. “Coach [Andy] Reid and [General Manager Brett] Veach did a great job of bringing in guys. And that’s one of the things I think is the reason they’ve had so much success in the last four or five years. One, Patrick Mahomes. Two is the locker room itself. Everyone loves each other regardless of where you grew up, how you grew up, where you went to school, whatever it is. We have one goal and it’s to win the Super Bowl, and I don’t care what has to happen, but we’re gonna do it, we’re gonna accomplish it together.”

Sherman played fullback during his time with the Arizona Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. Now, he’s a part-time sheriff’s deputy in Bourbon County, Kansas. He’s also a part-time Task Force Officer with the Department of Homeland Security’s investigative arm, Homeland Security Investigations.

Sherman was vocal on social media about some of the NFL’s COVID-related measures. In July 2021, he tweeted in protest of the NFL’s decision to have players wear colored wrist bands to designate their COVID-19 vaccination status.

“Funny, I thought we all agreed on the evils of segregation back in the 60s. Here we are again – only this time it’s based on personal health choices instead of skin color,” he tweeted.

“The league clearly values being woke, not awake. What a shame. And what a sham,” Sherman added in another tweet.

  1. God Bless this man! I do not blame him at all. Haven’t watched the NFL since all the kneeling started (politics). Matter of fact, we have quit watching all pro-sports, except major league baseball. We find the college game more entertaining. Law enforcement can sure use a good man, like him. They have been slandered and slimed by the democrats, yet go out there every day to do the job while a political party tries to get them defunded, and I admire our police officers.

  2. I walked out that door 30 years ago. And I was an avid team fan. Can’t go back now.

  5. Ive always enjoyed the NFL, NBA, etc, but, I find it increasingly difficult to watch even my hometown teams, due to the leagues and many of the player`s “wokeness”. Perhaps both sports should relocate to China, where their “hate America wokeness” will be much more appreciated!

    1. They would loose their multi million $ contracts. Plus they would have to work in slave labor “communities” during the off season.

  6. Well here again I disagree on one point , however it is a generalization. We are still visiting segragation over the color of skin. This time the blacks are wanting it. I sure wish they would make up their minds. Integaration segragation integration segragation.

  7. He will soon witness those “woke” vaxed players become sicker and weaker over time with much shortened life spans thanks to their lemming acceptance of the globalist propaganda about the so-called “vaccine”..
