Most Democrats in government are just like most actors in Hollywood: they derive their value from being seen and they’re not very smart.
In the latest example, California Gov. Gavin Newsom just performed an expert self-own, and there are no indications it was meant to be funny.
On Thursday, Newsom posed for a photo in what appears to be a restaurant where he was seated with a stack of fresh books he was “reading” in order to find out just what the heck this book banning in schools is all about.
The governor seems to enjoy being spotted in restaurants, whereby all appearances his favorite dessert is his own foot.
Newsom tweeted along with the photo, “Reading some banned books to figure out what these states are so afraid of.”

The staged photo was clearly meant to be a dig at what he perceives as the banning of books in certain states. There’s only one problem, though.
The book at the top of Newsom’s stack is reportedly banned by a California school district.
Toni Morrison’s novel “Beloved,” Art Spiegelman’s “Maus,” George Orwell’s “1984,” and Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” are the props in the photo. “Mockingbird” is banned – at least for now – in Burbank, California schools and it doesn’t end there.
Comprehensively, middle and high school English teachers were notified in September by the Burbank Unified School District they could no longer use the following titles: the aforementioned “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men,” Theodore Taylor’s “The Cay” and Mildred D. Taylor’s “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry,” Breitbart reported.
This was done at the behest of four parents, three of whom were black, the outlet said.
Where the leftists in charge of school boards have no problem erasing novels with central characters who are black, they seem to have a serious problem with not being allowed to sexualize children at a very young age.
Moreover, no books are currently banned in any state. Much like the Parental Rights Bill passed in Florida, the Left has it all wrong. Parental involvement at early developmental stages in a child’s schooling is a far cry from “banning” a book, even if it is removed from curriculum in elementary grades.
Conversely, University of California Berkeley recently attacked Abigail Shrier’s “Irreversible Damage,” a critique of transgenderism in schools which they say should not only be banned but burned, according to Breitbart.
But such is the way of the radical Left – always sticking their hands in the wrong places and making ghouls of themselves.
As one of their preeminent leaders, Gavin Newsom and his absence of forethought keep coming back for more, and Twitter was quick to remind him of his propensity to face-plant.

Yeah, uhm, it was woke Democrats that banned To Kill A Mockingbird from required school reading lists here in WA.

Next read “Genderqueer” and “Lawn Boy” and let us know whether you think they’re appropriate for kids who still believe in the tooth fairy.

And lastly, this clever (and probably more accurate) interpretation of Newsom’s message:
