Fmr. Goldman Sachs CEO claims ‘even Hitler didn’t permit his military to use chemical weapons’

Former Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein is being buried online for a Tweet that claimed “even Hitler” didn’t allow the use of chemical weapons during World War II.

Blankfein, responding to a Wall Street Journal article discussing a possible President Biden reaction should Russian President Vladimir Putin employ chemical weapons in Ukraine, was clearly trying to signal that Putin is worse than Hitler, but the Wall Street banker failed — epically.

“Worth noting even Hitler didn’t permit his military to use chemical weapons, though he had them,” Blankfein tweeted, forgetting, one must assume, the more than a million mostly Jews who died in gas chambers thanks to a chemical compound called hydrogen cyanide, aka, “Zyklon-B.”

Twitter didn’t forget about Zyklon-B, and users came out of the virtual woodwork to give Blankfein a brutal history lesson.

Comments ranged from the mild, “Gassing million didn’t count?” to the savage, “lloyd blankfein [sic] does like 10 tweets every month and he decided that one of them had to be about hitler [sic] and chemical weapons.”

“Worth noting that you’re a dangerous buffoon,” journalist Jordan Schachtel replied.

MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan just wants the comparisons to Adolph to stop.

“Stop with the Hitler comparisons!” he tweeted. “Stop with the total ignorance of the Holocaust! Sheesh.”

Author Benjamin Dreyer stated, “Dude here thinks Zyklon B is allergy medication,” adding that he has “successfully copyedited out of every manuscript I’ve ever worked on the phrase ‘even Hitler.'”

And David Sirota, editor-in-chief of THE LEVER, tweeted, “the just-gotta-hand-it-to-Hitler takes have gotten completely out of control.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Jennifer Gunter was simply at a loss for words: “I just….. OMFG…”

As for Jack Posobiec and at least one other Twitter user, only gifs were needed:

If there is any comforting thing Blankfein can take from his Twitter burial, it’s the knowledge that he wasn’t the first high-profile person to say such a stupendously stupid thing.

According to the Daily Mail, in 2017, Sean Spicer, then the White House Press Secretary made essentially the same claim as Blankfein, only in his case, Spicer was comparing Syrian President Bashar Assad to the genocidal maniac.

“I think when you come to sarin gas, he was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing,” Spicer foolishly stated at the time.

And as Katie Halper pointed out, Spicer had to say he was sorry.
