Candace Owens rips USA Today ‘woman of the year’ choice: Why can’t we just pick our race, too?

Conservative author Candace Owens was left asking “What’s a woman?” Tuesday after learning USA Today named Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine as one of their women of the year.

The Daily Wire host’s question was the topic of discussion during her appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” after Fox News host Tucker Carlson laid out the irony of a “biological man” receiving such an honor. USA Today describes the list as, “Recognition of women across the country who’ve made a significant impact.”

“This is a major win for the patriarchy! A biological man called Rachel Levine is the very top of the list…Do you feel honored to have this new addition to the sisterhood or do you have other feelings?” Carlson asked Owens.

“What’s a woman, Tucker? I’m confused. I don’t know what a woman is anymore,” Owens laughed. “It’s funny and it’s also pointedly ridiculous and it kinda gets back to what I always say which is that, with progressives, they’re always so progressive that they’re actually just regressive, right?”

Owens explained that notion using race relations which she says have devolved back to a place where the color of a person’s skin is now a critical component in judging them rather than based on their character.

“It’s the same thing in the category of feminism,” she said. “With early feminism, we were trying to create a space for women that was separate from men. We wanted women’s sports, we wanted women to be able to compete differently.”

The political commentator then alluded to the situation with UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas, a man competing on the women’s NCAA swim team.  These young girls trained their whole lives to compete at the collegiate level in women’s sports and a now man “can just throw on a wig and say, ‘Actually, I am a woman too,’ and you can crush all of their records…and we’re actually erasing women.”

Blaming feminists who have supported the trans-identity movement for accepting the notion that the only prerequisite to being a woman is belief in that idea, Owens counted former secretary of state Hillary Clinton among vocal feminists and noted a significant absence of perspective from her on this topic.

“Where is Hillary Clinton?” she asked. “I don’t want her perspective on Russia and Ukraine. I want to hear her perspective on this category…the person who ran on, ‘oh my gosh, women are so oppressed and I’m a woman and vote for me because I’m a woman.'”

“She seems suspiciously quiet on this topic, doesn’t really want to touch this topic about men taking the spots of women, something that is actually representing an existential crisis for these young women,” Owens added.

The conclusion for these regressive movements was always the same reason, Marxist ideology. The power of government grows with a confused electorate and, “If you don’t know whether you’re a woman or a man you’re not going to have a functional nuclear family,” she said.

“Dysfunctional people,” Owens surmised, “tend to rely upon the government.”

The reliance on the government is self-evident because, when presented with logical arguments, the progressives’ position falls apart. Carlson mused on the topic of self-identifying being the only criteria for these determinations when it came to the left and his guest hit on that, asking, “Why aren’t you black, Tucker, and why aren’t I white? Why can’t we just pick our races as well? It’s that ridiculous.”

Pointing to how trans people don’t want to answer whether you can pick your own race, Owens said, “Of course, you can’t pick your race and of course, you can’t pick your gender.”

“You’re born the way that you are, but what we’re talking about, Tucker, of course is reality and the left doesn’t work in reality,” she finalized.
