Florida Republican Rep. Maria Salazar joined Fox News’ “Sunday Night in America” to discuss the dangerous alliance of Russia and Cuba amid a new threat from Vladimir Putin to emplace Russian armaments on the island nation that lies just 90 miles from the U.S. coastal state of Florida.

Host Trey Gowdy said that as Russia continues to isolate itself from much of the world while it conducts warfare in the neighboring country of Ukraine, the communist nation is eager to strengthen as many alliances as it can, and appears to be rekindling an old flame with Cuba reminiscent of the moves that led to the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

Rep. Salazar warned that Russia and Cuba are in the midst of the “warmest relationship” they have had since the fall of the Soviet Union, noting that in February Putin sent a deputy to Havana to negotiate the re-establishment of an alleged spy post designed primarily to intercept U.S. communications. She added that as a result of the meeting, Russia is allegedly prepared to financially assist Cuba in the repair and redesign of their airport and various seaports, supposedly to be optimized for military use.

“While Russia is doing this despicable act against the Ukrainians, they have been penetrating Cuba since the last couple of years,” the congresswoman asserted. “And it’s paying off because Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua are with Vladimir Putin in this war.”

Salazar said that over the weekend, White House National Security Advisor Juan Gonzales was in the capital city of Caracas negotiating with Nicolas Maduro for the purchase of more oil from Venezuela.

As sentiment increases across the country for the U.S. to stop buying oil from Russia, Salazar said the response from the Biden regime is all for naught.

“We are punishing one tyrant to benefit another,” she said, adding, “What’s really underpinning this situation is the fact that the Marxists are part of the Democratic Party, and they are not allowing Biden to do what is morally correct for this country, which is to help people who want to be free.”

In light of that, Gowdy asked the congresswoman what she thinks America should do to incentivize Cuban people who want to be free.

She responded that the Biden administration must “empower the Cuban people” to take to the streets in protest, similar to the protests in July of 2021. Additionally, she said, the Cuban people need unimpeded internet so knowledge of their struggle gets out to the rest of the free world.

Salazar said the U.S. must demand that no Russian military equipment be placed on the island and no funding from Russia be given to the Cuban government. That, she said, is sadly not happening because part of the Democratic Party believes that Marxism is the way forward.

She concluded, “May the Lord help this country, but we know that influence that Biden is surrounded by is nefarious for the future of America.”
