Fox News host Greg Gutfeld shared a moving video explaining that his mother-in-law had been trapped in Ukraine during the Russian invasion and announced that his colleagues at Fox News helped her flee the country to Poland, tearfully reuniting with his wife.
Gutfeld’s mother-in-law was one of the fortunate ones who made it out. She arrived in Warsaw on Thursday. She was met by Elena Moussa, Gutfeld’s wife of 18 years.
“As you know, my mother-in-law is one of the lucky ones,” Gutfeld emotionally remarked on “The Five” Friday. “She just made her escape from Ukraine, arriving in Poland yesterday, reuniting with her daughter, my wife Elena.”
The video shows the mother and daughter hugging each other, never wanting to let go while tears of happiness and relief flowed.
“I have to warn you, though. This video has been known to cause a run on tissues,” Gutfeld accurately commented.
Gutfeld had previously stated that his mother-in-law had been staying at a hotel in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv while trying to get out of the country as the war ramped up. On Thursday, the Fox News Host reported that she had been able to get out.
“Just to let everybody know, my mother-in-law crossed into Poland about a half an hour ago,” Gutfeld announced on Thursday.
“So she’s in a car on her way to Warsaw to see her daughter Elena,” he noted.

While Gutfeld’s mother-in-law made it out, many have not been as fortunate. He showed footage of Ukrainians who were in tears and desperate to get out of the war-torn country before it is too late. The conservative commentator gave credit to the brave souls helping to get people out and those helping refugees. That included thanking Fox News colleagues who were reporting from Ukraine.
“You’re doing great work,” he told Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson on Wednesday, who was reporting from Lviv, Ukraine. “Thank you. I do want to point out that like, our coworkers are unbelievably awesome because the things that they have been doing for a grouchy cynical bastard like myself.”
“People have been helping me, and somebody who has been obnoxious to them before and will probably be obnoxious after. These guys over there I won’t name them, but you probably know who they are, and you’ve seen them, are absolute heroes helping out a little old lady they just met,” Gutfeld stated. “And maybe by tomorrow or the next day, she will be with her daughter and it’s because of those guys who work for Fox News.”
Fox News co-host Jesse Watters poked at Gutfeld, asking him if he would still be a “jerk.”
“I was a jerk yesterday to Scott Wilder who has been helping me, I apologized to Scott like 20 times. I was yelling at him in a store. But Trey [Yingst], and Steve Harrigan, and Scott, they’re all just frickin’ heroes,” he declared, referring to Fox News’ vice president of field and production operations and two of the network’s correspondents.

Mixed in with the relief was humor on “The Five.”
“I think you should throw a party for everybody when they get back to the United States,” Watters said on Friday. “I want to make a joke, but I don’t think it’s appropriate, so I won’t.”
“But it was great to see that and great to see your wife so happy. You know, she’s not always a happy person living with you,” he quipped.
“That’s closer to the truth than you might expect,” Gutfeld replied with a smile.
The UN refugee agency is reporting that 1.2 million Ukrainians have now fled the country as Russia rolls in its troops and ratchets up terror. Currently, the communist regime claims they are allowing Ukrainians to leave the country but there has been story after story of civilians being gunned down by the Russians.
