Doocy challenges Psaki: What have you done that has worked?

White House press secretary Jen Psaki dismissed concerns over the delayed effectiveness of “historic sanctions” because, by her assessment, President Biden “rallied the world.”

During Friday’s White House press briefing, Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy confronted Psaki over the steps the administration has taken to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from aggressive action throughout the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

After mentioning a report that China declined to help leading up to the invasion, Doocy pointed to the constantly changing deadline on the administration’s actions producing results.

“Okay. There’s a report in The New York Times that you guys kept asking China to help you stop Russia from invading Ukraine and they didn’t,” Doocy stated. “So what have you guys done throughout this slow-moving Russia crisis that has worked?”

Seemingly affronted, Psaki retorted, “In what capacity?”

“Well,” Doocy began before detailing the chain of events, “the president talked to Putin. He talked to the G7. He threatened sanctions. He put sanctions in place. Now he says the sanctions are going to take 30 days or about a month. Do you guys think that people in Ukraine have about a month?”

Psaki dismissed the question out of hand and instead began to lecture Doocy on what she considers the “historic” diplomatic accomplishments Biden had made so far. “Well, Peter, let me just take a step back and explain to everyone how diplomacy works and how our approach from the United States has worked.”

“What the president has done is he has built a global coalition to stand up in the face of President Putin and President Putin’s aggression and invasion of Ukraine,” Psaki went on. “What he has done is he has rallied the world, our European partners – even at cost to them, in some capacities – to put in place significant sanctions, historic sanctions that would have a enormous impact on the Russian financial sector.”

This so-called “global coalition” wasn’t able to garner full support from the United Nations Security Council on a vote to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but Psaki will continue to get up there and claim there is support behind the continued failure to stop it.

Psaki continues to push the narrative that Biden is succeeding even when Biden himself demonstrates the opposite. During Thursday’s White House press briefing, she attempted to spin the president’s own claim from earlier in the day that “No one expected the sanctions to prevent anything from happening.”

“That’s not exactly what he meant,” Psaki claimed weakly. So what exactly does Biden mean? Maybe Psaki doesn’t know either because she seemed to continue to contradict herself Friday in discussing talks with Russian leaders.

Before asking about the delay in sanctions taking effect, Doocy asked about direct relations with Russia: “And just so that we can understand, then, the approach: That means that you guys will sit here and sanction Vladimir Putin and then send diplomats to go sit on the same side of the table with the Russians to hash out the Iran deal. Is that what’s happening?”

“That’s right, Peter, but I don’t know why you sound so skeptical,” Psaki replied before explaining that the administration’s job was to take actions that were in the best interest of the American people. However, she appeared to suggest the opposite when asked about a direct discussion with Putin.

“Why doesn’t President Biden want to talk to Vladimir Putin right now?” a reporter in the press pool asked.

“Because he’s invading a sovereign country,” Psaki stated before suggesting that diplomacy wouldn’t work right now.
