Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), the Democratic Majority Leader, announced that senators returning from recess on February 28 will be receiving a classified briefing on the Ukraine/Russia situation, and that didn’t sit well with some people.
Despite the current state of emergency in which the world in general, and Ukraine specifically, finds itself, it looks like the congressional recess will last until the end of the month. Upon their return, Schumer says senators will receive a full, classified run-down on the situation.

That said, the senators reportedly received an unclassified briefing on the situation Thursday. However, there were some concerns, likely security-related, about doing a classified briefing remotely.
There is an unclassified briefing for senators today at 5 p.m. There are challenges with doing a classified briefing from them remotely

Social media response largely wondered why elected officials were waiting until the end of their recess to come back:
I can’t believe that recess isn’t canceled under these circumstances! Next week! Who the hell knows what could happen by next week. Get on a plane, get to DC and do your jobs!

Next week? We have that kind of time?

Tell voters you don’t want to be bothered without telling voters you don’t want to be bothered. Good sense of urgency.

Now every person working for an employer tell them a major crisis has come upon us and could affect the world, but I can wait till next week to deal with it. LOL the US government at it’s finest!!!

Maybe they should actually work. The calendars are full of more breaks than actual work.

This announcement, however, does indicate a shift in urgent priorities as Schumer and his allies were slated to discuss the “Women’s Health Protection Act” as their first order of business right after returning from their break.
